Janet G. Chambers of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died on Saturday, October 18, 2014. She was 91.
Mrs. Chambers was born in Greenock, Scotland, a daughter of the late Robert W. and Margaret Reid Grott. When she was a child, she moved to New York. She spent most of her life in New York state. Mrs. Chambers was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, N.Y. ![]() Christi Marie Rodgers of Peach Bottom fell in the line of duty on Friday, October 24, 2014. She was 26. Mrs. Rodgers was born in Lancaster, a daughter of David and Janice Harven Jackson. She worked as a scheduler and caregiver for Caring Matters Inc., Lancaster. ![]() Chester Willis, of Oxford, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 87. He was the husband of Colean Brewer Willis. Born on a farm in Lincoln University, he was the son of the late Millard Willis and Mamie Johnson Willis Pate. He was pastor of the Bible Church of Jesus Christ, Elkton, MD. Chester farmed in Southern Chester County for many years. He retired from Modern Mushroom in West Grove as the maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and the scent of freshly plowed soil and cut hay. ![]() Barbara Joanne Boldt, 86, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, October 20, 2014. The youngest of 3 sisters, she was born in Blairsville, a small town in western PA, a daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (King) Smith. Barbara and her husband, Thomas Boldt had celebrated 65 years of marriage in September. Barbara attended Penn State, earning a degree in Physical Therapy then went on to a graduate program at University of Penn. She and her husband moved to Philadelphia where she worked at Shriners Children Hospital. After 5 years they left the city and bought their 1st home in King of Prussia and started their family. When the youngest child, Dan was 8 years old, Barbara returned to work as a PT at a school for handicapped children in Montgomery Co. Barbara was the first women elected to the Upper Marion School Board. She took an interest in local politics. In 1971 the family moved to Quarryville and bought a 35 acre farm with a house in need of repair. Together they restored the house and land to a beautiful property. Janet G. Christine Marie Scheid of May Post Office Rd., Quarryville, died at home on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. She was 20.
Miss Scheid was born in Lancaster, a daughter of Lisa Marie Bilger Vance and her husband, Steven Vance, and Douglas A. Scheid and his wife, Stacey. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Ben Scheid; her maternal grandparents, Carrie and William Bilger; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Pat Scheid; her paternal great-grandmother, Isabel Bingaman; and two stepbrothers, Nathan Scheid and Nicholas Scheid. A graveside service will be held in the New Providence Church of God Cemetery, Fairview Rd., New Providence, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Schreiber Pediatrics. Arrangements were made through Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville. Nancy Yvonne Rote of New Providence died at home on Sunday, October 12, 2014. She was 76.
Mrs. Rote was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Edward and Clara Miller Todd. She worked as a teacher's aide at George Washington Elementary School, Lancaster. Mrs. Rote is survived by two children, Penny S. Rote of New Providence and David T. Rote of New Providence; her granddaughter, Jennica LeClerc; and her sister, Betty McClune of West Chester. Her brother, Edward "Buzz" Todd; and two sisters, Shirley Favinger and Helen Sagerer, are deceased. Services were private. Arrangements were made through Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville. ![]() Betty D. Laws of West Grove died at Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del., on Friday, October 17, 2014. She was 83. Mrs. Laws was born in Bel Air, Md., a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Goldie Stykes Dixon. She drove school bus for Krapf Bus Co. for 32 years. ![]() Dolores J. "Dolly" Landis of Rawlinsville Rd., New Providence, died on Friday, October 17, 2014. She was 78. Mrs. Landis was born in southern Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Errel and Sadie Rineer Johnson. She was a homemaker. David R. Garman of Kirkwood died at home on Thursday, September 25, 2014. He was 56.
Mr. Garman was born in Brookhaven, a son of Elsworth K. Garman and the late Marie O'Neil Garman. He worked as a cameraman for several companies. He was also a professional boxer who fought at the Blue Horizon Club in Philadelphia. He was an Eastern Regional and All-American champion at Penn State University. |
