Jill L. Kelley of Willow Street died at her home under hospice care on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. She was 59. Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of Sarah (Coleman) Kelley of Holtwood and the late Paul L. Kelley. Ms. Kelley had worked for her parents as an office manager and technician at Kell-Tech Dental Lab. She loved cooking, gardening and spending time with her family. Calvin D. Keene of Bart Township died at Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, August 20, 2015, following a brief illness. He was 76. Mr. Keene was born in Bart Township, a son of the late Roy C. and Frances Beyer Keene. He graduated from Solanco High School. Mr. Keene worked on the family farm. He was named the Outstanding Cooperator for the Lancaster County Conservation District in 2004. He also earned the Century Farm Award for keeping the farm in his family for more than 100 years. He was named the Southern Lancaster County Republican of the Year in 2015. Vincent Jones of Willow Street died on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. He was 93. Mr. Jones was born in Martic Township, a son of the late Henry Vincent and Anna Alexander Jones. He lived in Holtwood before moving to Willow Street. He worked as a control room operator at the Safe Harbor Power Plant until he retired. After retiring, he worked as an electrician for several electrical contractors. Mr. Jones enjoyed reading and hunting. Lorraine M. Holcombe of Effort died at Celtic Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre, on Sunday, July 12, 2015. She was 86. Mrs. Holcombe was born in Detroit, Mich., a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Bender Barlbierer. She lived in New Providence before moving to Effort. She worked as a receptionist. Mrs. Holcombe was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and was active in the Southern End Community Association. Esther H. Sheaffer of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died at Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, July 2, 2015. She was 87. Mrs. Sheaffer was born in Bart Township, a daughter of the late Carl S. and Mabelle E. Trout Probst. She worked in the laundry and housekeeping department of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community for more than 30 years before retiring. Mrs. Sheaffer was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood. She enjoyed spending time with her family, raising flowers, dining out, and collecting mugs. Robert H. Kreider of Lancaster died on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was 79. Mr. Kreider lived in Quarryville before moving to Lancaster. He was a dairy farmer, working the family farm at the Buck. Mr. Kreider was actively involved in the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. He served with the Brethren Volunteer Service in Sardinia, Italy. Alicia Sterling Rush of Strasburg died at Willow Valley on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 98. Mrs. Rush was born in Binghampton, N.Y., a daughter of the late Cora and Warren G. Sterling. She was active in theater productions in Lancaster. She was one of the first females to act in Green Room productions at Franklin & Marshal College. She remained active with those productions from the 1930s through the 1950s. Tina M. Volz of Holtwood died on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 59. Mrs. Volz was born in Lancaster, a daughter of Esther Groff Murphy of Millersville and the late Marvin Murphy. She was a fiber artist, creating custom knitting and weaving. Mrs. Volz was a member of Apple Seeds, a preteen girls' instruction group. Helen M. Happel died at the Willow Valley Retirement Community on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 97. Mrs. Happel was born in Drumore Township, a daughter of the late John G. and Katheryn Drumm Farmer. She graduated from Drumore High School and the Preston Retreat Maternity Hospital in Philadelphia. |
