M. Jane Boyd of Strasburg died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Mrs. Boyd was the daughter of the late Mabel and Frank Kilefner. She worked as an accounting executive for Landis and Co., Lancaster, for 27 years. She and her husband founded White Oak Display and Design and she served as the company's secretary-treasurer for more than a decade. Marian E. Griffith of Kirkwood died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. She was 83. Mrs. Griffith was born in Bart Township, a daughter of the late Carl S. and Mabelle E. Trout Probst. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Griffith also transported her Amish neighbors and worked in the laundry at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Viola M. Yuninger of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died at home on Sunday, July 21, 2013. She was 97. Mrs. Yuninger was born in Eden Township, a daughter of the late William P. and Nora Probst Groff. She lived in New Providence before moving to the retirement community. She was a homemaker. Fred H. Shenk of Conestoga View, Lancaster, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was 96. Mr. Shenk was born in Providence Township, a son of the late Chester and Ida Herr Shenk. He lived in Holtwood before moving to Conestoga View. He worked in the maintenance department of PPL Electric Utilities, Holtwood, until he retired in 1979. Louise Wells Tyson of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died at home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was 92. Mrs. Tyson was born in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late Van Devender and Virginia Smith Wells. She worked as a bookkeeper and business manager. Dorothy M. Smeltz of Roosevelt Blvd., Lancaster, died at Lancaster Regional Medical Center on Sunday, July 21, 2013. She was 95.
Miss Smeltz was born in Strasburg, a daughter of the late Isaac and Annie Lahr Smeltz. She graduated from Quarryville High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. Arthur J. Anderer of Aster Dr., New Providence, died at Hamilton Arms Nursing Home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. He was 82.
Mr. Anderer was born in Somerville, N.J., a son of the late Arthur and Ethel Hannah Anderer. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Linda W. Dommel of Covered Bridge Rd., Pequea, died at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, on Sunday, July 21, 2013. She was 57. Mrs. Dommel was born in Carlisle, a daughter of the late John and Rosie Jumper Warner. She was a homemaker and secretary for Dommel Plumbing and Heating. C. Eugene Peiffer of Quarryville died on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was 85. Mr. Peiffer was born in Lancaster, a son of the late John R. and Grace Reidenbach Peiffer. He graduated from Milton Hershey Boys School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served with the 308th Bombardment Wing, Kimpo Air Base, Korea. Mr. Peiffer worked for Burnham and Hamilton Watch before joining Armstrong World Industries. He retired as a draftsman with Armstrong in 1989. |
