John C. Long, 101, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, died Sunday, August 308/31/2020
John C. Long, 101, resident of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community for the past 25 years went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 30, 2020. He was the husband of the late Grace E. Long who passed away on October 2012. He was born in Westmont, New Jersey the son of the late Joseph A. Long and Anne (Lutz) Long. On April 11, 1942, he married Grace E. Comfort. They had two children, Jeffrey J. Long of New Port Richey, Florida (who passed away in July 2020) and Robyn L. Long of Greenland, New Hampshire. The Lord blessed John and Grace with 3 grandchildren, Stephen, Kelley and Michael and with 5 great grandchildren, Austin, Brayden, Levi, Mila and Landon; all of Florida. Samuel K. Lapp, age 16, of 250 Black Barren Road, Peach Bottom, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020 as the result of injuries from a buggy accident.
Born in Quarryville, he was the son of Daniel S. and Barbara Stoltzfus Lapp. Samuel attended the Old Order Amish Church. Rachel Grace Novak, age 20, passed away unexpectedly in her home in Morton, Pennsylvania on August 27, 2020. She was the daughter of Richard (Decatur, IL) and Patricia (Williams) Novak (Conestoga, PA) Rachel spent most of her life in Lancaster County and graduated from Penn Manor High School. Rachel had a heart for service and social justice and often connected her friends in need to services in the community. She volunteered in her church and served her family and friends. Emma A. (Johnson) Toms, 95, formerly of Willow Street went home on Wednesday August 26, 2020 at her current residence (Fairmount Homes). She was the wife of the late Stacy E. Toms, Sr. Born on September 15, 1924 in Drumore Twp., Lancaster County she was the daughter of the late Errel and Sadie (Rineer) Johnson. Emma worked in the accounting/payroll department at Sperry New Holland, retiring in 1983. During her employment at Sperry New Holland she also volunteered with the New Holland Ambulance Association. After retirement she and Stacy enjoyed traveling the United States in their motorhome. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and was an avid deer hunter who took many whitetail deer at the “Trailer” in Juniata County. She was a Philadelphia Phillies and Dallas Cowboys fan. In her later years she enjoyed going to Delaware Park Casino on day trips with her sister Jean. (And yes, they actually won!) Dale L. Shirk, 80, formerly of Millersville and East Drumore, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Lancashire Hall. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Herman A. and Verna I. (Stauffer) Shirk.
Dale was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1958. He was involved in farming and dairy operations for his entire life in Lancaster County and in Central Pennsylvania. Brandon S. Murphy, 38, of New Providence, Pa. passed away due to a vehicle accident on August 24, 2020 He was born on June 20, 1982 in New Providence, Pa. to Robert W. Jr. and Debra A. (Latham) Murphy. Brandon graduated from Solanco High School in 2000 and York Technical Institute with honors in 2002 as a Certified HVAC Technician. He was employed with Thomas M. Mechanical of Conestoga and also worked for Robert H Ranck of Lancaster, Pa. William Allen “Bill” Hart, 57, of Lancaster, formerly of Drumore, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, August 22, 2020. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Lola Kathleen (Waddell) Hart, of Millersville, and the late Norman E. Hart. Bill was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1981. After high school, he attended Thaddeus Stevens School of Technology to study computer-assisted drafting, graduating in 1983 with an associate degree. He then went on to find employment in the field of construction as a project manager, working in this field for 30 years, most recently for Brecknock Builders. Anne H. Lavin, of Quarryville died Sunday, August 23, 2020 at her residence, 2 days prior to her 77th birthday. She and her husband, Robert W. Lavin, celebrated 57 years of marriage. Born in Ridley Park, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Creveling Hansen. A homemaker, she was an avid bowler at the former Garden Spot Bowling Alley in Strasburg, participating with the Nickel Mines Bowling League. Helen Ella Dirian, 93, died Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Hickory House Nursing Home, Honey Brook, PA. She was the widow of William Henry Dirian who died 2007. Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late William Alfred and Ella Dressler Klose. Helen retired from J.L. Clark Manufacturing where she was employed as a quality control inspector and was a member of the J.L. Clark retirees. Following retirement, Helen worked as an administrative assistant for many years at Sunshine Corners, Strasburg. An active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, she taught Sunday school and participated with the sewing circle. Nancy A. Boyce, 84, of Quarryville, PA, passed into the Loving Arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 19, 2020, at her home, of natural causes. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Ross and Esther Lefever Erb. Nancy was the loving wife of Melvin C. Boyce, Jr. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary and were blessed by a celebration attended by all of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. |
