Doris Brown Poole, 77, of Quarryville and formerly of Cochranville, entered into rest at her home, surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Sr., and Jennie (Phillips) Brown. She was the loving wife of James “Ted” Poole for over 58 years. Doris was a 1963 graduate of Oxford Area High School. She had worked for Dupont Louviers in Newark, DE and also Cameron’s Hardware Store in Oxford for 25 years. She retired from Cedar Knoll Builders. Doris was a member of Harvest Presbyterian Church in Willow Street. She enjoyed reading and gardening, but what brought her the most joy in life was being with her children and grandchildren. Betty Benjamin Bare,79, of Oxford, PA, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Arland C. Bare, Sr. Born in Rising Sun, MD she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Mona Jean Baumgarner Benjamin. Betty was employed with Gross School Bus as a bus driver and was previously employed as a manager at Squires Pantry, Nottingham. She was a member of Endeavor Church Elkton, MD. Betty enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and church family. Larry W. McElroy, 68, of Pequea, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023. Born and raised in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Russell and Pauline (Dennis) McElroy. Many remember Larry for his impeccable sense of humor and his sense of living life to the fullest. Larry is survived by his sons: Larry W. McElroy Jr, of Lancaster, James R. McElroy Sr of Lititz, and Tom L. McElroy, husband of Heather of Pequea. Also surviving are eight grandchildren as well as a great grandchild on the way; siblings, Gary McElroy, husband of Liz, of Peach Bottom, Dottie Lee, of Lewes, DE, Cindy Garman, wife of Jimmy, of Rising Sun, MD, and Brian McElroy, of Ohatchee, AL. Connie Mae Housekeeper Hunter, of Port Deposit, spent her 78 years bringing joy to everyone with her unwavering kindness and her love for her family and friends, and her smile that lit up every room. Connie was in her glory when she was with her loving husband, John E. Hunter of Port Deposit, their daughter Lori Pfeiffer and her husband Mark Pfeiffer, their daughter Jessie Hunter, her husband JR Philhower, their beautiful grandchildren Brianna Pfeiffer and Donovan Hunter and her sister Julie Patterson. To know Connie was to know the joy of a life rich in laughter and love, and it was a legacy that could be seen and felt as she went home to be with her Lord and Savior while surrounded by her family on September 21, 2023 Daniel W. “Danny” Sexton, 56, of Peach Bottom, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late R. Guy “Jack” and Betty A. (Boyd) Sexton. For employment, Danny worked for his father in the family business, Sexton Logging. As a young man he enjoyed racing his 1969 Nova SS, riding his dirt bike, working on old cars, and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Danny was thoughtful of others, was a jokester and a prankster, and had a contagious laugh that made others smile. Keith J. Charles, 67, of York, passed away suddenly on September 16, 2023 at his home.
He was the beloved husband of Carol J. (Marriott) Charles of York. Born in Lancaster on December 4, 1955, he was the son of the late Clair J. and Marianne (Geist) Charles. He was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Pannell and first wife, Lauren (Pfortsch) Charles. Keith was a facilities manager for S. Clyde Weaver in East Petersburg, Lancaster County. Mrs. Joyce Joyner Puckett, 81, of Greenville NC, previously of Quarryville, PA, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at ECU Medical Center after a traumatic brain injury. Joyce was reunited with her husband, John who passed away in 2013. Joyce was born in Nashville, NC. She was one of 15 children born to Ben and Estelle Joyner. Joyce and her husband John, moved to Pennsylvania in 1978 where they remained until John retired from Yellow Freight Trucking. Joyce began to drive Amish and loved having a taxi service with her husband John after his retirement. Amish driving was their passion for 20 plus years until they decided to become snowbirds in Florida, and spent winters there until John passed away in 2013. In her younger years Joyce enjoyed sewing for her family and worked as a seamstress for many years before moving to PA. Once in PA, Joyce was a homemaker raising her daughter Josie and enjoying time with her son Perry. Joyce had many friends who loved coming to her home to play cards, watch movies or just hang out and talk about anything and everything. Joyce enjoyed cleaning, yard work, baking for the Quarryville Fair, hanging out with Josie and her friends and shopping. She loved being a mom, a sister, an aunt and especially a Mom-Mom to her grandchildren. Michael Edward “Pete” McDonough, age 84, of Quarryville, passed away at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
He was the husband of the late Marcia Dills McDonough who passed away on March 22, 2023. Born in Uniontown, PA he was the son of the late Helen Lucille Hay Coldren. William C. Bilger, 77, of Christiana, PA entered into rest after a two year battle with cancer on Saturday, August 26th, 2023. Known by his friends as Bill, and Bill The Barber. He was known by his family as Son, Husband, Dad, Pop Pop, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpop. Britany Marie Slobodjian, 29, formerly of Peach Bottom, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 as the result of being struck while riding her moped near her home in St. Petersburg, FL. Born in Chester County, she was the daughter of Michelle (Rebideau) Slobodjian and the late Mark J. Slobodjian who passed on February 8, 2023. Britany was a free-spirited creative who loved music, painting, and drawing. She worked as a grower and cultivator for Fluent Cannabis Care, a job she took very seriously. |
