Neil H. Jones of Quarryville died December 25, 2019 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was 83. Mr. Jones was born on February 27, 1936 in Peach Bottom, to the late Howard and Virginia Mae (Owen) Jones. He received his chemistry degree from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, and was employed in international purchasing at Armstrong World Industries. Mr. Jones later founded The Builders Group, a construction company. Miriam Drumm Layman, 95, of Quarryville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019, surrounded by her family. Born in Centre Hall, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Melvin and Carrie (Hess) Drumm. Miriam married Ralph Layman on June 23, 1951. They were married for over 65 years at the time of his passing in 2016. She graduated from Middleburg High School and the University of Pittsburgh, Magna Cum Laude, and received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University. Mrs. Layman taught first and second grades at Quarryville Elementary School for many years. Prior to that, she taught High School English in Somerset, Kutztown, and Brockway Pennsylvania. Edwin Rivera, 75, of Laura Court, Quarryville, PA died Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Conestoga View, Lancaster, PA. He was the husband of the late Dawn F. Shabach Rivera. Born in Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Manuel and Rosa Ayala Rivera. Edwin was employed in the mushroom industry. He was an avid Eagles football fan. Emma J. Lehman, 89, of Conestoga, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at her home. Born in Dow City, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Amanda (Detlefsen) Ludemann. She was the dedicated wife of the late B. Franklin Lehman. Emma loved her family and prayed daily for each one, by name. She loved reading her Bible and dedicated her life to serving others. She was a hard worker and taught her children the same. She loved listening to her husband sing while playing any musical instrument he picked up. She often requested her children & grandchildren to sing & play for her, also. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, table games (Rummikub) and putting photo albums together. Thomas W. Sheets, 75, of Lancaster Pike, Drumore, PA died Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital. He and his companion and best friend Patty Farrell were together for 43 years. Born in Peach Bottom, PA he was the son of James Sheets, Sr. and the late Lois L. Adams Sheets. A life time heavy equipment mechanic he last worked for Long’s Asphalt. He was both an excellent fabricator and mechanic. Carol P. Henkel, 89, formerly of Strasburg, entered into rest on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Landis Homes. Born in Long Branch, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Clyde A. and Grace (Purchase) Pearce. She was married to the late John H. Henkel for 60 years at the time of his passing. Carol studied animal husbandry and was one of the first women to receive a Bachelor’s of Science from Rutgers University. She was instrumental in the development of therapeutic horseback riding in Lancaster County. One of her students went on to become a gold medalist in the 1996 Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. She was also a judge and USA team support in the 1999 World Dressage Championships for Riders with Disabilities in Denmark. Carol was a Jefferson Award winner and also received the Willow Street Sertoma’s “Service to Mankind” award. She was also a longtime active member of Zion United Church of Christ in New Providence. Buster Wayne “Paw Paw” Osborne, 67, of Drytown Road, Holtwood, PA went to be with his Lord and his Little Angel, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Vicki L. Davis Osborne. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Riley and Emmer L. Thomas Osborne. Buster retired from Buck Company in June of 2019 where he was employed as a molder for 47 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending public auctions, spending time with his family, and spoiling his grandchildren. Dorothy Mae Shreiner, 101, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019. She was the widow of Claude Shreiner who passed away in 1981. Born in Quarryville PA, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Harry and Lillie Aulthouse Keen. She had been employed at the Stehli Silk Mill, Lancaster, Lancaster Garment Factory, A.K. Mann Tobacco Co, and housekeeping at Lancaster General Hospital. Martin Luther Kauffman Jr., 63, of Pequea, PA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt Joy.
He was the husband of Deborah Gotshall Kauffman. They had celebrated 40 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster PA, a son of the late Martin L. and Alma L. Graybill Kauffman. Martin attended Rawlinsville Mennonite Church. He enjoyed spending time with his farm animals. Sylvia L. Lehner, 78, formerly of Peach Bottom, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Conestoga View. Born in Upland, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Robertson) Street. She was the loving wife of Charles A. Lehner for over 54 years. Sylvia was a school teacher in private Christian schools in New Jersey for several years. She was an active member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church and loved reading and spending time with her grandchildren. |
