Betsy Jo Sinclair Hess of Peach Bottom died at home on Sunday, May 25, 2014. She was 68. Mrs. Hess was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Betty Graybill Sinclair and the stepdaughter of the late Elizabeth Agne Sinclair. She graduated from Solanco High School in 1963 and was a homemaker in her earlier years. Mrs. Hess and her husband operated Fulton Market, Wakefield, for more than 13 years. She then worked as head seamstress for Yorgeys and Fillings Cleaner until she retired in 2010. She was an active member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church for 50 years. Ronald Lee Snyder Sr. of Maple Ln., New Providence, died at Lancaster Regional Medical Center on Monday, May 26, 2014. He was 69. Mr. Snyder was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Bernard and Frances Holden Snyder. He worked for Yellow Freight, Lancaster, for 33 years before retiring. Mr. Snyder is survived by five children, Lori, wife of Ty Gable of Conestoga Daphne, wife of Jack Fisher of Lancaster, Sharon L., wife of Stuart Martin of Willow Street, Ronald L. Jr., husband of Janice Snyder of Lancaster, and Tracy, wife of Michael Kingsboro, Mt. Joy; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother. Virginia K. Lefever of Springville Rd., Quarryville, died at home on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. She was 91. Mrs. Lefever was born in Colerain Township, a daughter of the late Daniel and Bertha Ressler Keen. She drove a school bus for Solanco schools for six years and also provided transportation for many of her friends. Mrs. Lefever was a lifetime member of Mt. Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was the first female president of the church council. She also taught Sunday School and was chairman of the cemetery committee for many years. Harvey R. England Sr. of Quarryville died at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, on Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was 71. Mr. England was born in Hopewell, a son of the late Roger and Frances Herr England. He had worked for Eschbach Bus Service as a mechanic and bus driver for 16 years. Mr. England enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, playing cards, following the career of NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson, and John Deere tractors. Robert Edwin Mackes, of Peach Bottom, died at Conestoga View in Lancaster, on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was 90. Mr. Mackes and his wife, Theresa Marie Ertl Mackes were married 65 years on April 16 of this year. He was born in Allentown, son of the late William Franklin and Anna Lewis Gay Mackes. A. Elizabeth "Betty" Martin, formerly of Quarryville, died at the Willow Valley Retirement Communities on Sunday, May 18, 2014. She was 91.
Mrs. Martin was born in Providence Township, daughter of the late William M. and V. Pearle Heidelbaugh Gleisner. She was married to the late Samuel N. Martin who died in 1978. Ronald David Townsley of New Providence died at home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was 60. Mr. Townsley was born in Lancaster, a son of Helen Eckman Townsley of Drumore and the late William J. Townsley Sr. He was raised in Lancaster County. Mr. Townsley joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1971 and served for six years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was honorably discharged October 18, 1977. Arlene A. Drumm of Peach Bottom died at home on Thursday, May 1, 2014, after a lengthy illness and a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 81.
Mrs. Drumm was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Enos M. and J. Edna M. Adams. She worked for Hubley Toys, Lancaster. William A. Henry of Marticville Rd., Pequea, died at Lancaster General Hospital on Monday, May 12, 2014. He was 62. Mr. Henry was born in Providence Township, a son of the late Norman and Naomi M. Swartz Henry. A Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Juneau. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was the HVAC manager for Energy Works at Park City, Lancaster, for 41 years. He also worked as a tombstone and monument setter for the Original I. Diller Miller Company, Quarryville. Edith R. DeLong of Little Britain Rd., Quarryville, died at Hamilton Arms Center, Lancaster, on Monday, May 12, 2014. She was 83. Mrs. DeLong was born in Eden Township, a daughter of the late Walter F. and Ella Mary Graybill Eberly. She was a graduate of Quarryville High School. Mrs. DeLong worked as a secretary for Frey Brothers Manufacturing before retiring in 1994. Earlier, she had worked for RCA in Lancaster and Hager's Store, Lancaster. She was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, Quarryville. |
