Ronald David Townsley of New Providence died at home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was 60. Mr. Townsley was born in Lancaster, a son of Helen Eckman Townsley of Drumore and the late William J. Townsley Sr. He was raised in Lancaster County. Mr. Townsley joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1971 and served for six years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He earned the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was honorably discharged October 18, 1977. After leaving the Marine Corps, he worked as an over the road truck driver for more than 30 years. During his employment with L.M. Prange Inc., he received numerous safe driving awards.
He enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diana Williams Townsley; three children, Jill Kay Townsley, wife of Michael Parker of Jacksonville, Ore., Shane Lee, husband of Carrie Townsley of Centerville, and Jessica May, wife of George Prange of Quarryville; three brothers, William Jr., husband of Vicki Townsley of Drumore, Robert, husband of Dawn Townsley of Shippensburg, and Thomas, husband of Lisa Townsley of Drumore; three sisters, Nancy, wife of Glenn Henry of New Providence, Connie, wife of Wayne Nichols of Peach Bottom, and Brenda, wife of John Martin of Peach Bottom; and six grandchildren, Brooke, Brittany, Bryianna, Savannah, Riley, and Brandi; and members of his extended family. Friends may call at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1530 Slate Hill Rd., Peach Bottom, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20. Services will be held from the church at 11:30 a.m. on that date.
