Samuel K. Fisher, age 11, of 1550 Slate Hill Road, Peach Bottom, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 as the result of an accident.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of Jacob S. and Rachel S. Stoltzfus Fisher. Samuel attended the Old Order Amish Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by 4 siblings: Amos S., Benjamin S., Mary B., Isaac S. all at home, grandparents: Samuel K. and Priscilla F. Stoltzfus Fisher of Peach Bottom, Annie L. Stoltzfus Stoltzfus wife of Jonas Beiler of Danville. ![]() Chester Ella Wiley Eckman, Jr. 83, of Budview Drive, Willow Street, PA passed away at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, August 25, 2023. He was the husband of his loving and supportive wife, Carol L. “Nancy” McKinley Eckman for 19 years. Born in Rising Sun, MD, he was the son of the late Chester E.W. and Emma Rae Wiley Eckman. Chet’s working career consisted of working as a farmer doing custom work, equipment operator, and truck driver for IUOE, Local 542. In retirement he worked for Nutrient. He was a member of Rough and Tumble Engineers, Lancaster County Sportsmen Assn, Pequea Valley Sportsmen Assn., Pequea Boat Club, Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, Hoss Pepper Card Club, Buffalo Valley, and Elkton VFW. ![]() Wade M. Peterson, age 84, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Wednesday, August 23rd 2023. He was the husband of the late June Peterson. Born in Poplar, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Henry and Bertha Presnell Peterson. Wade spent most of his working career as a mushroom farmer. He is survived by a son, Tracy (Marsha) Peterson, of Peach Bottom 3 sisters: Edna Peterson, Jo Kershner, both of NC and Rhonda Salisbury, of TN. ![]() Marilyn A. Pembleton, age 88 of Holtwood, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at her home. She was the wife of LeRoy E. “Red” Pembleton for nearly 70 years before his passing on August 8, 2023. Born in Neptune, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Pansey Carmen Zergiebel. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church of Oakhurst, NJ for over 70 years. Marilyn was an avid reader and she enjoyed journaling, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a servant’s heart and loved helping others. ![]() Jennie May Evans, 91, a life long resident of Oxford, PA, passed away peacefully to heaven on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. She shared 38 years of marriage with her late husband, Billy John Evans. Jennie graduated from Oxford High Area High School and received an award for perfect attendance. ![]() Vivian Irene Hess, 93, of Christiana, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at her home. Born in Bart Twp., she was the daughter of the late Silas E. and Elsie I. (Reinhart) Rice. She was the loving wife of the late Elam R. Hess. Vivian graduated from Colerain and Quarryville High Schools. She owned and operated the former Bartville Store with her late husband. She also served as tax collector for Bart Twp. Vivian was a member of the former Colerain Baptist Church and Farm Women # 20. ![]() James C. “Jim” Swisher, 86, formerly of Georgetown, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Newport Meadows Heath and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Deloris K. (Harbaugh) Swisher, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2009. Born in Georgetown, he was the son of the late Leon and Edna (Fichtner) Swisher. Jim was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1955. Following high school, he went on to a career of truck driving, working for several companies over the years, most recently Liquid Transport, where he retired. ![]() Velma Louise Davis, 89, of Buck Heights Road, Quarryville, PA passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was the wife of the late John W. Davis who died January 10, 2013. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Bessie Elville Griest. Louise had a varied career, working for the former RCA, Hubley Toys, and as a notary. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, and attending Quarryville Senior Center. ![]() Harold L. Stokes, age 79, of Holtwood, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. He was the husband of Barbara J. (Best) Stokes, celebrating 57 years of marriage on December 18 of last year. Born in Holtwood, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elsie (Kurtz) Stokes. He graduated from Penn Manor, Class of 1961. Harold was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. He was a proud farmer who lived a simple life. He often said, "I'm gonna tell you something, if you don't drive a GMC truck, use a John Deere tractor and root for the New York Yankees, you're un-American." ![]() Doris B. Aument, 79, of Willow Valley Communities, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Grace (Stauffer) Breneman. She was the loving wife of Murl Aument who passed in 2014. Doris graduated from Elizabethtown High School, she married Murl in 1965 and relocated to Quarryville. After raising 2 daughters, she worked at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and Willow Valley Retirement Community. |
