Sonia L. Swinehart, age 85 of Strasburg, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at her home. She was the wife of the late William A. Swinehart who passed away on April 19, 1997. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura Stephens Bullock. She worked in the Good ’N Plenty Gift Shop. In her free time, Sonia loved reading and going to the mountains. Surviving are 3 sons; Russell, husband of Dorothy Swinehart of Lampeter, Lee, husband of Lynn Swinehart of Conestoga and Stephen Swinehart of Strasburg, 3 grandchildren; Nicholas P. Swinehart, Laura L. Collins, and Sarenah M. Swinehart, and 5 great-grandchildren; Aiden, Callan, Stetson, Sadie, and Gentry. Henry R. Carr, Jr., age 78, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the loving husband of Joan M. Funk Carr. They celebrated 54 years of marriage. He was born April 4, 1945, in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Henry R. Carr, Sr., and Eleanor MacDonald Smith Carr and step mother, Wilma Gemmill Carr. He graduated from Willow Glen High School, San Jose, CA, in 1963. He received his Associates Degree in Business Administration in 1999 as a member of Phi Betta for his high grades. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years as Radarman 3rd Class Petty Officer. He was honorably discharged after serving in the North Atlantic once, twice in the Mediterranean Sea with the 6th Fleet, and six times in the Caribbean. Rebecca L. Warner, age 56, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023. She was the wife of Carl F. Warner. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Martha Kerchoff Henry. Rebecca enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, social media, phone games, and gardening. In addition to her husband, she is survived by 4 children: Carl and Michael Warner of Missouri, Amber Warner of Quarryville, Austin Warner of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, and a sister Rose Morgan of Lancaster. Clair E. Hershey of New Providence, entered into the ams of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 20, 2023 after suffering from pancreatic cancer. He was the loving husband of Pamela (Gottshall) Hershey for 44 years. He was born to Lester and Edith (Steffy) Hershey on April 4, 1956 and brought up on the family farm in Parkesburg. He was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church for many years and loved studying the scriptures. He retired from owning and operating Hershey's Farm Market, Parkesburg in 2021. After retiring, he and Pamela spent a year in South Carolina and were active in Oakdale Baptist Church until returning to PA for a hospice care. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all, spending time with his family. James Thomas “Tom” Cochran, 87, of Little Britain, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Eilene (Adkison) Cochran, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Rising Sun, he was the son of the late Robert C. and E. Marguerite (Kauffman) Cochran. Tom attended Solanco schools and was eager to join the military. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving from 1953 – 1957. He then enlisted in the Air Force, serving from 1957 – 1973, working in the Traffic Management Office where he arranged shipments of household goods and personnel. In the year prior to retirement, Tom received training to repair vehicle radiators. After retiring from the military, he found employment with Herr’s Motor Express to repair radiators and perform mechanical repairs. In later years, Tom worked at Little Britain Store in the hardware department and he repaired kerosene heaters. William E. Duncan, Sr., 82, of Oxford passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at his home. Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who treated every single person he met like family. He loved to tell people about Jesus, and the love of the Lord, and was never afraid to tell you “Jesus loves you!”. He was the husband of Lois A. Greer Duncan with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late William and Pauline Aumann Duncan. Bill was a veteran of the US Navy. He was employed with ACME Markets as a butcher in Oxford and Kennett Square retiring in 2003 after 30 years of service. Henrietta (Butler) Crabtree Coulbourn, 95, of Quarryville, passed away on Wednesday May 17, 2023 in the comfort of her home. She was born on May 8, 1928 in Chadds Ford Pennsylvania, daughter of the late William H. Butler and Emma Talley Butler. Henrietta loved the Lord and her family. She was a member of Elam United Methodist Church since 1953, where many of her ancestors were also members. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but also worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. She enjoyed spending time with family and volunteering at the local library and at her church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Elmer Crabtree and James Coulbourn and two sons, John Crabtree and Kenneth Crabtree. Also preceding her were three brothers and four sisters. June Louise Fisher, 91, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at her home. Born in Rawlinsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Thelma Elizabeth (Appleton) Miller. She was married to the late John F. Fisher for 54 years at the time of his passing in 2004. June was in the first class to graduate from Solanco High School in 1948. She was a cashier and front store manager at the former Musser’s Market for many years. June was actively involved at Rawlinsville United Methodist Church, where she played organ, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Robin Ann Sizemore, 60, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Sunday, May 14, 2023. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Ruth (Sweater) Renier. She was married to the late Stephen W. Sizemore until his passing in 2013. Robin was employed by the Buck Company and also worked part time at the Rawlinsville Hotel and Pequea Boat Club. She enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in Black Moshannon State Park. |
