Robert H. Kreider of Lancaster died on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was 79. Mr. Kreider lived in Quarryville before moving to Lancaster. He was a dairy farmer, working the family farm at the Buck. Mr. Kreider was actively involved in the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren. He served with the Brethren Volunteer Service in Sardinia, Italy. Alicia Sterling Rush of Strasburg died at Willow Valley on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 98. Mrs. Rush was born in Binghampton, N.Y., a daughter of the late Cora and Warren G. Sterling. She was active in theater productions in Lancaster. She was one of the first females to act in Green Room productions at Franklin & Marshal College. She remained active with those productions from the 1930s through the 1950s. Tina M. Volz of Holtwood died on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 59. Mrs. Volz was born in Lancaster, a daughter of Esther Groff Murphy of Millersville and the late Marvin Murphy. She was a fiber artist, creating custom knitting and weaving. Mrs. Volz was a member of Apple Seeds, a preteen girls' instruction group. Helen M. Happel died at the Willow Valley Retirement Community on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She was 97. Mrs. Happel was born in Drumore Township, a daughter of the late John G. and Katheryn Drumm Farmer. She graduated from Drumore High School and the Preston Retreat Maternity Hospital in Philadelphia. June 16, 2015, James Edwin Vasco left his home of the past seventy years in Kirkwood for a permanent home. He was 77 years old. Born in West Grove, Pennsylvania, to the late John and Elizabeth (Dodd) Vasco, he was married to Betty Joan (Thompson) Vasco for fifty seven years. James served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58 and was stationed in Germany. After returning home he continued farming with his father. In later years he loved to build engines. Jim Maintained and drove a drag car for many years and then moved onto John Deere tractors and stationary gas engines. Joseph A. Thomas, Sr. of Kirkwood and Port Orange, Fla. died Thursday, June 4, 2015. He was 75.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Thomas and Clarabel H. (Dickinson) Thomas-Newnam. Mr. Thomas attended Scott Senior High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a master carpenter throughout his life, and worked as a project manager before retiring. Mr. Thomas attended Andrews Bridge Christian Church in Pa., and First Assembly of God in Fla. Betty A. (Souders) Aukamp, 89, of Willow Street, passed away on June 14, 2015 at Lancaster Regional Hospital. Betty was born, July 27, 1925 in Strasburg, Twp., a daughter of the late Jay B. and Susan (Martin) Souders. She and her husband, George R. Aukamp had celebrated 68 years of marriage. Betty was an active member of the Smithville Church of God since 1954. She was a loving homemaker and a wonderful baker and seamstress. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and kind to everyone she met. Sally D. Groff, 90, of Lancaster PA and formerly of Quarryville, PA, passed away on June 13, 2015 at Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA. Born in Buffalo NY, a daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy Lowe Davis Sally had been employed as a legal secretary. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and was an avid reader. Lisa Cymek Scheetz, 44, of East Drumore Twp., passed away tragically on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her home. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of Michael Cymek, Sr. and the late Brenda Pell Cymek. She was married to Kim Scheetz of Peach Bottom. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two daughters, Paige and Sydney; two brothers, Michael Cymek, II and Christopher, husband of Faith Cymek and extended family members. Hailey Scheetz, 16, of East Drumore Twp., passed away tragically on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at her home. Born in Sidney, MT, she was the daughter of Kim and Lisa Cymek Scheetz. |
