John Richard Zeher, 91, of Quarryville, formerly of Ocee, Fla., and Maryland, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Lucile (Pope) Zeher, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Minneapolis, he was the son of the late John and Sophia (Pala) Zeher. John was a graduate of Park Avenue High School in Minnesota, class of 1946. After high school, he served in the Army and then attended St. Cloud University, earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He went on to be employed by the U.S. Treasury as a Bank Examiner, and as Director of Emergency Preparedness, retiring with 25 years of service. Roy Elwood Lamberson, 81, of Douts Hill Road, Holtwood, PA died Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth S. Lechner Lamberson who died August 5, 2008 and with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Born on Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence and Ella H. Dumper Lamberson. Elva Warfel Shoemaker, of Quarryville, died March 26. She was 97. Born in Drumore, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Viola Warfel and the loving wife of Charles (Jeff) Shoemaker, who passed in 1973. Elva dedicated her life to the success of others. Graduating from Quarryville High School, she entered Millersville University to study education. She elected to suspend her education to join the war effort in support of her husband, working for several years at Hamilton Watch Company, at the time concentrating on building military timepieces. Post World War II, she and Jeff established their homestead outside Quarryville on “Warfel Hill” and Elva became a partner in the family tomato brokerage business, B.S. Warfel and Sons, Inc. as the company accounting manager until the company was sold in 1980. She joined her brother Don in establishing and managing a network of fitness facilities in central PA and later assumed the role of general manager of Progressive Dental Orthodontic Supply Company, another family business. Charles J. Lefever, 83, of Willow Street, passed away at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Resident of Legends of Lancaster for 3 years, he was born in Lancaster to the late Willis C., Sr. and Mildred (Harple) Lefever. He was a graduate of West Lampeter High School, Class of 1955, and worked as a mechanic for Armstrong World Industries, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Strasburg. A 32 Degree Mason, Charles was a member of Christiana Lodge #417 F.&A.M., Harrisburg Consistory A.A.S.R. and Zembo Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. Jean Elizabeth Robb, 91, of Quarryville, formerly of Clearfield, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late Donal L. Robb, who passed away in 2006.
Born in Yorkana, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin G. and Eva Imogene (Miller) Hoffman. Jean was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School, class of 1946. After marrying Donal, Jean spent many years raising her family and caring for her home. Roberta Kane Webb, 97 of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community passed away into the arms of her Savior on March 24, 2020. Born August 6, 1922 in Chester, PA to the late Harry and Grace Simmons Kane. Roberta was married to Clyde Webb until his passing in 1994. A homemaker, Roberta enjoyed flowers and always had flowers in her home. She also enjoyed painting and liked sharing her pictures with family. She attended Grace Baptist Church, Russellville. Roberta loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed fixing meals for them. We never ate enough according to her. She loved her church and her church family. It was hard for her when health kept her from going. Kevin Thomas Shaffer, 39, of Oxford, PA passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Jennersville Hospital, West Grove. Born in Chester he was the son of Thomas C. and Sandra Hazlett Shaffer of Oxford. Kevin enjoyed playing baseball and football growing up in Collingdale. In his younger years he raced radio-controlled cars, liked NASCAR, Big Eagles Fan, fishing with his father, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his parents; Maternal grandmother, Dolores Hazlett-Mulhern of Wallingford; a special friend, Heidi Guhl of Oxford; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Debbie (Norman) Fishel, 72, formerly of Rural Hall, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2020 while at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Alvah Delmer and Lola (Dilworth) Norman. She was married to the late Charles H. Fishel who passed on October 8, 2012. Debbie was a homemaker. She also worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for a short time. She had attended Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown, N.C. Gerald L. Gerald L. Kreider, 76, of Lancaster Pike, Quarryville, PA died Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital from complications from a fall. He was the husband of the late Linda L. Mowrer Kreider who died December 10, 2013. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Leon P. and Martha W. Overly Kreider. Gerald was a lifelong farmer, taking over the family farm from his parents. In later years, he also was a truck driver. He was a member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, and a former member of the Lions Club. |
