Glenn V. Blantz of Stumptown Rd., Lancaster, died at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was 74. Mr. Blantz was born in Warwick Township, a son of the late Walter and Katherine M. Drescher Blantz Sr. He worked as a welder and fabricator until he retired from Clean Burn in 2002. Thelmas James "TJ" Phillips of Fawn Grove died on Monday, October 28, 2013. He was 83. Mr. Phillips was born in Colerain Township, a son of the late Burris Zeb and Esther Stuart Phillips. He lived in Lancaster County before moving to Fawn Grove. He worked at Mill Print, Christiana, and on the family farm. While farming, he learned to operate the family's sawmill and eventually making that his career. Suzanne Mildred Tangert Edgell of Quarryville died at Lancashire Hall on Friday, October 25, 2013. She was 66.
Mrs. Edgell was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Harry Albert and Esther Mildred Fisher Tangert. Douglas M. Hoffer Jr. of Picadilly Hill, Quarryville, died in a motorcycle accident in Washington Township, Franklin County, on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was 32.
Amos K. "Butch" Bradley died at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, on Monday, October 7, 2013. He was 62. Mr. Bradley was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Joseph W. Sr. and Faye Pennington Bradley. He had lived in Peach Bottom. He worked for the Howard E. Groff Co., Quarryville, and later for Brothers Trucking, York. Linda Mae Todd of Quarryville died at Hershey Medical Center on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. She was 65. Mrs. Todd had been fighting the aftereffects of pancreatitis for seven months. Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Agnes Sullivan Eshelman. She, her sister, and her sister-in-law owned and operated Abigail's Trunk in Quarryville through the mid 1990s. Mrs. Todd was an avid reader and an ardent supporter of the Quarryville Library. She served on the library's board of directors and worked with the Friends of the Quarryville Library. For many years, she chaired that group's fall and spring book sale fundraisers. Anna Mae Forbes of Quarryville died at home on Thursday, September 12, 2013. She was 88. Mrs. Forbes was born in Baltimore, a daughter of the late Arthur and Edith Katherine Bradley Weaver. She was a graduate of Millersville State Teachers College. Mrs. Forbes worked as a school librarian, first in New Jersey and then in the Solanco School District. She retired from Solanco in 1990 after 38 years' service. Louise Wells Tyson of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died at home on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was 92. Mrs. Tyson was born in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of the late Van Devender and Virginia Smith Wells. She worked as a bookkeeper and business manager. Dorothy M. Smeltz of Roosevelt Blvd., Lancaster, died at Lancaster Regional Medical Center on Sunday, July 21, 2013. She was 95.
Miss Smeltz was born in Strasburg, a daughter of the late Isaac and Annie Lahr Smeltz. She graduated from Quarryville High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. C. Eugene Peiffer of Quarryville died on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was 85. Mr. Peiffer was born in Lancaster, a son of the late John R. and Grace Reidenbach Peiffer. He graduated from Milton Hershey Boys School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served with the 308th Bombardment Wing, Kimpo Air Base, Korea. Mr. Peiffer worked for Burnham and Hamilton Watch before joining Armstrong World Industries. He retired as a draftsman with Armstrong in 1989. |
