Robert L. Trout, 90, of Quarryville, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 30, 2016. He was the son of the late Lloyd H. and Alma (Graham) Trout. Bob was the husband of A. Jane (Herr) Trout. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. After farming with his father, Bob worked over 20 years at the Christiana Dairy, and went on to work another 12 years at Walter & Jackson Lumber until retiring in 1991. Bob was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, the Bart Fire Company Axillary and the Strasburg Sportsman Club. He also bowled for several years on senior leagues. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR, mowing, farming and spending time with his family, especially his three great-grandchildren. Kathy Ann Lewis, of Oxford passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 at her home. She was 52.
Born in Wilmington, DE she was the daughter of Edward E. Lewis of Oxford and Dorthy Lee Blevins Lewis of West Grove. Kenneth E. “Willie” Little, 81, of New Providence, entered into rest on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Born in Harford, Co., he was the son of the late Sanford and Ida Bell (Hickman) Little. Ken worked and retired from the former Wiley Shipyard as a crane operator. He was a member of the Pequea Valley Sportsman Association. Ken was an avid gardener and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Mary K. Novotny, 87, of Shiprock Road, Willow Street PA, beloved wife of Charles A. Novotny, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Her husband expressed the best 60 years of their lives. Born in Twin Rocks PA, a daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie Conzo Markovich. Mary was a pleasure to be around, and an excellent cook. Chuck and Mary did a lot of traveling, seeing most of the lower 48 States, Poland, Hawaii, and Alaska. She was a faithful friend to everyone on Shiprock Road. Mary had worked at the White Motor Company in Cleveland, OH as a secretary. In 1972, Chuck and Mary moved to Lancaster, getting involved in the Motel business, and until retirement working with insurance companies in fire restoration. Mary enjoyed dancing (polka), was an excellent flower arranger, and loved gardening. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville, where she was a member of the church committee making Christmas Mice. Gerald E. Duvall, 77, of Clearfield Road, New Providence, PA died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his residence. Born in Lampeter he was the son of the late John M. and Ethel M. Trimble Duvall. He was the widower of Sandra J. Dombach Duvall who died April 5, 2001. Jerry was retired from Dombach Brothers in Willow Street where he managed the plumbing, heating and hardware for 47 years. He was a member of New Providence Church of God. Active in his community he was a founding member of the Willow Street Sertoma Club, a member of Charles M. Howell Lodge #496 F&AM and a Providence Township Supervisor for 12 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, going to Pine Creek, landscaping, and woodworking. Herbert Snavely Hess, 95, formerly of Quarryville and, more recently, Millersville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 22. He was born March 16, 1921, in Oregon, Pennsylvania, the oldest child of the late Norman and Helen Snavely Hess. Herb grew up on Green Meadows Farm near Oregon, attending school in Manheim Township. In 1942, he married Sara Burkholder Hess, of Akron. The following year, they moved to Runnymede Farm south of Quarryville, where they farmed, raised seven children, and operated a bed and breakfast. He worked as a flock manager for De Kalb Hatchery for 15 years. They were active members of Mechanic Grove Mennonite Church. In 2005, they moved to Millersville and in 2015 to Oak Leaf Manor in Landisville. They celebrated their 73rd anniversary in November, 2015. Ronald W. Swinehart, 69, of Lancaster, entered into rest on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Born in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Roy and Jean (Graybill) Swinehart. Ron had been employed by Lukens Steel for many years. He was a member of Nickel Mines Mennonite Church. Ron was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing cards. Helen Louise "Pinky" Vaughan, 78, of Oxford passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD. She was the wife of Edward C. Vaughan, Sr. with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Oxford, she was the daughter of the late William and Lona Miller Keys. Helen was a member of the Nottingham Missionary Baptist Church. Thomas J. Barrett, Sr., 89 of Lancaster Pike Quarryville, died at his residence on Friday, May 20, 2016. He was the husband of the late Marie C. McEntee Barrett who died April 3, 2010. Tom was born in Philadelphia, a son of the late Charles L. and Mary C. Frees Barrett. Tom had been employed by Masland Duran Company in Philadelphia for 33 years. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville, PA. Tom served his country proudly in the US Navy, as a Seaman First Class during WWII and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed watching TV and most importantly loved his family, especially traveling with his grandchildren. T. Arlene Aument, 93, formerly of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Brereton Manor. Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Elizabeth (Keen) Boettner. She was married to the late Charles S. Aument. Arlene was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and house plants. |
