Glenn E. Murr Jr. of Jamestown Ct., Lancaster, died at home on Friday, August 29, 2014. He was 65. Mr. Murr was born in Lancaster, a son of the late Glenn E. Sr. and Mary Cauler Murr. He worked as a fiberglass specialit for ACI Composites until he retired. He had worked for Trojan Yacht Co., Lancaster. Mr. Murr was an avid outdoorsman and a lifetime member of the Paradise Sportsman's Association. Merle W. Reedy of Buck Heights Rd., Quarryville, died at Lancaster General Hospital on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. He was 84. Mr. Reedy was born in New Market, Va., a son of the late Phillip E. and Julia May Crider Reddy. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. Thomas Christian Musser of New Providence died at home on Thursday, July 31, 2014. He was 17. Thomas was born in Lukovit, Bulgaria. He was a son of Joseph N. and Susanna W. Owens Musser. He spent the first 16 years of his life lying in an orphanage crib, where he suffered from neglect, malnutrition, and lack of human interaction. After being adopted and brought to the United States, his strength and skills improved as he received medical care, nutrition, and the love of his new family. Kenneth C. Kern of Bel Air, Md., died at home on Thursday, July 31, 2014. He was 97.
Mr. Kern was born in Baltimore, Md., a son of the late Henry and Ola M. Pusey Kern. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Penn State University in 1938. He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Maryland. Mr. Kern worked as an engineer for Baltimore Gas & Electric until he retired in 1979. He was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church. Mr. Kern was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Kathleen M. Kern. His wife, Dorothy Aument Kern, died in March, 1998. His son, Henry K. Kern, died in 1997. Private services were held in the Quarryville Cemetery. Arrangements were made through Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville. Lester "Joe" Barnett Jr. of Ronks died at home on Sunday, August 3, 2014. He was 63.
Mr. Barnett was born in Drumore, a son of the late Lester J. Sr. and Virginia Smoker Barnett. He lived in Drumore before moving to Ronks. He was a graduate of Solanco High School. During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was passionate about his work as a truck driver. Mr. Barnett is survived three children, Barbara, Jeremy, and Sabra Barnett; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathy Homsher of Drumore and Donna Osborne of Lititz. Private burial services will be held at the Chestnut Level Presbyterian Cemetery. Arrangements were made through Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville. Ruth Helen Buswell Noé of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. She was 90.
Mrs. Noé was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late James O. Jr. and Helen Sapulding Buswell. Thomas W. Ferguson Jr. of Street Rd., Kirkwood, died at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. He was 88. Mr. Ferguson was born in Kirkwood, a son of the late T. Walter and Zeeda Hess Ferguson. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer John R. Pierce. The ship saw duty in the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans and was the first to send its crew ashore on liberty at Hiroshima and Nagaski, Japan. During his time in the Navy, he traveled more than 61,0000 miles. He was a farmer in Colerain Township and, for 35 years, was the rural mail carrier for the Kirkwood Post Office. Eva M. Nolt of Goshen Mill Rd., Peach Bottom, died at home on Monday, June 23, 2014. She was 84.
Mrs. Nolt was a daughter of the late Henry and Martha Martin Weaver. She was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church. Gladys Eva Howard of Quarryville died on Sunday, June 22, 2014. She was 84.
Mrs. Howard was born in Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Milton and Gertrude Hanna Hassel. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. |
