Merle W. Reedy of Buck Heights Rd., Quarryville, died at Lancaster General Hospital on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. He was 84. Mr. Reedy was born in New Market, Va., a son of the late Phillip E. and Julia May Crider Reddy. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a truck driver for Musser's Feed Mill for 23 years. He then worked as a custodian at Solanco High School for 22 years before retiring in 2002. After he retired, he worked as a carpenter for his brother, Phillip.
Mr. Reedy had been a member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. He served the church as an usher and as a trustee. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and model trains and layouts. Mr. Reedy is survived by his wife, Mildred W. Carter Reedy; three daughters, Peggy A. Reedy of Drumore, Judy L., wife of William Krauss of Conowingo, Md., and Connie F., wife of David Hanten of Holtwood; six grandchildren, Scott Reath, Stacia Tottorellia, Larry Krauss, Charlie Krauss, Aaron Smith, and Rachel Yellets; four great-grandchildren, Amy Reath, Phoenix Smith, Isabella Yellets, and Lily Smith; and his sister, Virginia Maxey of Lancaster. Brothers Cleo Reedy, Raymond Reedy, Joseph Reedy, Melvin Reedy, Phillip Reedy Jr., Charles Reedy, and Jacob Reedy, and his sister, Lucille, are deceased. Services were held from Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson officiating. Burial with military honors was in the church cemetery.
