John R. Church, Jr., 66 of Selinsgrove Center (ICF), passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Thursday, May 7, 2020 of natural causes. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late John R. Church, Sr. and Shirley J. (Shenk) Church Mussachio. Born with mental challenges and being non-verbal, John was a loving, caring, affectionate, smiling and helpful person. Within his capabilities, always willing to help his Center brothers or staff as needed and usually with a big smile while doing so. Selinsgrove provided a full, educational, functional, active, religious and happy life for John. Staff always supporting him, attentive to details, caring, compassionate, informative to family and all concerned with his care. Kenneth S. “Ken” Boulé, 84, of Quarryville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2020 under the care of Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Duchesne) Boulé, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Keeseville, NY, he was the son of the late Stephen E. and Lillian (LaHue) Boulé. Ken was a graduate of Keeseville High School, class of 1953. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958, earning the rank of Interior Communications Electrician 1st Class. Following his discharge from the Navy, Ken enrolled at the Ward School of Electronics and earned an associate’s degree. He then went on to be employed by the Foxboro Company as an electrical engineer for over 30 years, travelling the world and visiting famous places such as the Great Wall of China and the pyramids and Sphinx in Egypt. Joyce K. Blevins, age 84, formerly of Wakefield, PA, passed away at Luther Acres of Lititz on Saturday, May 9, 2020. She was born in West Chester, daughter of Orie & Ruth Kilby Kilby. In the past she was an active member of the Wrightsdale Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was involved with the WMU, Red Hats and helped with meal preparation. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, bird watching, reading her Bible and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. H. H. Catherine (Hart) Hoffer, 96, of United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in East Drumore Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Alice (Feichtner) Hart, and the wife of the late Richard I. Hoffer who passed in February, 1986. After graduating from Quarryville High School, she attended the Nursing School of Lancaster General Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse with the Class of 1944. Mary Elizabeth (Howell) Absher, 78, of Nottingham, PA passed away peacefully on May 6, 2020, at home surrounded by family, following a period of declining health. Born August 3, 1941 in Pikeville, KY, she was the second child of Levi Howell and Amy Tackett Howell. Amy passed away when Mary was a small child. Mary and her husband, Charles Absher, recently celebrated their fifty-first anniversary. Her greatest joy was her faith in Jesus Christ, and her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. John B. Haldeman, Jr., 82, of Quarryville, formerly of Claymont and Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Joan W. (Tull) Haldeman, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late John B., Sr. and Rebecca (Berry) Haldeman. John was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1955. After high school, he attended the University of Delaware and enrolled in a variety of college courses. For a few years after college, John was employed by United Airlines as a customer service representative. He then went on to be employed by DuPont as an International Representative for Photo Products for 26 years, and most recently he was employed by the YMCA in Wilmington, DE serving in their I.T. department and working with their camp programs for 20 years. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. Joseph J. Albright, 70, of Spring City, PA, formerly of Nottingham, PA passed away Monday, May 4, 2020 at Phoenixville, Hospital, Phoenixville, PA. He was the husband of the late Barbara Jones Albright. Born in Altoona, PA he was the son of the late Roy E. and Rose Matlack Albright. He was a retired veteran of the US Army. He is survived by one son, James D. Albright (Melissa) of Oxford, PA; four grandchildren, Alysa Anderson, Katelynn Anderson, Maddox Albright and Danika Albright; one brother, Andy Albright of Morgantown, PA; and one sister, Linda Chalfant of Honey Brook, PA. Margaret Shenigo, age 82 of Holtwood, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 2, 2020.
She was the wife of Andrew T. Shenigo, Jr. with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage on June 9th. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Elsie Eleanor Rambo St. Clair. In her free time, Margaret loved spending time with her family. Dorothy Mae Sexton, age 94 of Quarryville and formerly of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the Newport Meadows Nursing Home where she resided for the past 4 years. She was the wife of the late Eugene Ralph Sexton, Sr. who passed away on June 11, 1992. Born in West Grove on November 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late W. Evan and Florence Williams Marsh. Dorothy was hardworking outside of the home for many years. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her grass, and flowering. She was a very independent woman and lived alone for 24 years until moving to the Newport Meadows Nursing Home where she received excellent care. Jay N. Hastings, 68, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Hayes and Marian (Rineer) Hastings. He was the loving husband of Barbara A. (Miller) Hastings for 41 years. Jay was a 1970 graduate of Solanco High School. He retired from GCA, a contractor for Excelon Corp. He was a member of Washington Lodge #156 F.&A.M., the Quarryville Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, and Union Presbyterian Church. Jay was an active volunteer with Quarryville Borough and also enjoyed spending time at Black Stump Hunting Camp in Potter County, taking trips to the beach, and playing golf. |
