Ann E. Kilgore, age 81, of Peach Bottom, passed away at her home on Monday, May 18, 2020. She was the wife of the late Howard “Pete” Kilgore who died in 2016. Born in Chilhowie, VA, she was the daughter of the late Lillard and Lucy Johnson Roten. Ann was a member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church in Peach Bottom. She was the owner of Valley View Restaurant in Quarryville for 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, doing the puzzles in the newspaper, her pond and the fish in it, and her dog Frankie. She is survived by 3 children: Kim Church, Sherri wife of Dave Bleacher, Keith husband of Michele Kilgore all of Peach Bottom, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a brother Jim husband of Alice Roten of Nottingham. Robert W. Keller, 89, formerly of Nottingham, entered into rest at Oak Leaf Manor on Sunday, May 17, 2020.
Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Rambler) Keller. Robert had been a poultry farmer and went on to operate his own agricultural sanitization business for many years. He was a life-member of the Oxford Gun Club, where he enjoyed trap and skeet shooting. Richard (Rick) J. Oravitz, of Quarryville, PA, passed away peacefully at Silver Lake Nursing Home on May 11, 2020, from complications from COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 72. Rick was the beloved husband of Vicky Oravitz, nee Huber, and dedicated father/great grandfather to daughter Olianna. He was also the much-loved father to daughter and son-in-law Amy and Ken Dysart of Yardley, PA; son and daughter-in-law Peter and Michelle Oravitz of Miami Beach, FL; and daughter and son-in-law Jill and Trae Guiseppe of Hopewell, NJ. He was also the stepfather to Steve Canale of Collingdale, PA, Gina Marrone of Havertown, PA and Eric Canale of Quarryville, PA. Rick was grandfather to 18 grandchildren and predeceased grandson Eric, and 10 great-grandchildren and predeceased great grandson Gabriel, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rick was pre-deceased by his first wife Gail Minker of Philadelphia, PA, in 1988. Rosie L. “Peggy” Mabe, 85, of Nottingham, PA passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at her home. She was the wife of Charles M. Mabe, Sr. with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. Born in Boone, NC she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lilly Eldreth Phillips. Peggy loved her family and friends. She is survived by her husband; five children, Charles “Chuck” Mabe, Jr. and his wife Mary of Rising Sun, MD, Albert Mabe and his wife, Donna of Oxford; Shirley Kilby and her husband, Keith of Nottingham, Daniel Mabe and his wife, Jody of Nottingham and Larry Mabe and his wife, Lisa of Bangor; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Velma Phillips of Lenoir, NC. He was the husband of the late Alma Feather Devine who passed away on February 8, 2008. He was born in Johnston, PA son of the late Thomas D. and Edith Howard Devine. He was a member of West Willow United Methodist Church. Thomas was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved fishing and hunting. Kathryn Ann McClain, 88, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Brackenville Center, Hockessin, DE. She was the wife of the late Allen Sterling McClain, Jr. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward and Erma Williams Whyte. Kathryn was employed with Elsmere VA Hospital for 35 years as an LPN. She is survived by three children, James Bowers (Lisza) of Omaha, NE, Gary Bowers of Mesa, AZ and Dennis Bowers (Sharon) of Wilmington, DE; three grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Whyte of Quarryville, PA and Ross Whyte of Pottstown, PA; and one sister, Betty Walls of West Grove, PA. Catherine Marie Shetler, 96, of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, entered into rest on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry A., and Anna B. (Krantz) Dinkelberg. She was married to the late Rev. John C. Shetler for 60 years at the time of his passing. Opal Leaora Stanley Ortega, 84, of Oxford, PA, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Fair Hill, MD. Born in North Wilkesboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Wiley Franklin and Inez Bare Stanley. Opal enjoyed helping others and was a home care assistant to Roy and Gretchen Jackson and Jane Whitehouse Thouron. Opal enjoyed cooking, gardening, caring for others and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Dale T. Dissinger, 82, of Quarryville, his life plan now complete, returned to his Creator on May 12, 2020. He was born on Oct. 20, 1937 to the late Samuel and Ruth (McCauley) Dissinger. Dale graduated from Solanco High School and earned a B. S. Degree in Secondary Education from the now Millersville University. He worked 44 years for the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, serving the handicapped, which was his calling. His dedication to his work earned him the Outstanding Counselor of the Year Award from the state of PA. After retiring, he worked as a maintenance person at Muddy Run Park for 12 years. He enjoyed reading about and visiting historical sites. He loved hunting and outdoor activities. Dorothy S. Graybill, age 91, formerly of Paradise, passed away at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community on Friday, May 8, 2020. She was the wife of the late Robert J. Graybill, Jr., who passed away on January 9, 2012. She was born in Lancaster, daughter of the late John & Mary Stewart Burkholder. She was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise. She retired from the Pequea Valley School District, where she was in charge of the Cafeteria. She was a member of the Special Division of the Bart Township Fire Company and the Strasburg Senior Citizens. |
