John B. Haldeman, Jr., 82, of Quarryville, formerly of Clayton, Delaware, died Monday, May 45/8/2020
John B. Haldeman, Jr., 82, of Quarryville, formerly of Claymont and Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Joan W. (Tull) Haldeman, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late John B., Sr. and Rebecca (Berry) Haldeman. John was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1955. After high school, he attended the University of Delaware and enrolled in a variety of college courses. For a few years after college, John was employed by United Airlines as a customer service representative. He then went on to be employed by DuPont as an International Representative for Photo Products for 26 years, and most recently he was employed by the YMCA in Wilmington, DE serving in their I.T. department and working with their camp programs for 20 years. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. In his spare time, John was a professional timpanist, playing in the Diamond State Concert Band and various churches. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, DE, where he served as Elder and at one time served as Moderator of the Presbytery for the region. He then transferred his membership to Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church of Quarryville, PA, where he also served as an Elder.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John B. Haldeman, III and wife Katie, of Columbus, OH; daughter, Holly H. Hoffman and husband Dave, of Fenton, MI; grandchildren, Ashley Jewell and husband Brandon, Melanie Haldeman and her fiancé Dave Schart, David Hoffman and wife Phindy, and Jacob, Michael, and Andy Hoffman; and a great-grandson, Timothy Hoffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Haldeman. Due to the COVID-19 public gathering prohibitions, a memorial service for John will be held at a later date. Private interment will take place in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
