Dallett G. Tice, 89, of Nottingham, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at home. He was the husband of the late Sadie Mae Hall Tice with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, PA, he was the son of the late Norman and Emma Alexander Tice. He was employed with NVF, Kennett Square, as a machine operator for 45 years. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors and listening to classic county music. He is survived by his four sons, Robert Tice of North East, MD, Roger Tice of Elkton, MD, Victor Tice of Oxford and Dale Tice of Havre de Grace, MD; two daughters, Elaine Keen and companion, Robin Grammer of Havre de Grace, MD and Penny Weiss and companion, William Raither of Rehoboth, DE; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren. Frank W. Fritz, 97, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Born in Aston Mills, PA, he was the son of the late Alice Burns and Walter L. Fritz. Frank proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for Sun Oil Company for over 34 years in the automotive lab research and development. He retired in 1984. Frank was the House Committee Chairman of the Brinton 1704 House. He enjoyed travel, driving, and country music. Everyone who met Frank loved him. He had a winning smile and a marvelous sense of humor. Howard Lee Furches entered into rest at home Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the age of 89. He was the husband of Mildred D. McIntire Furches with whom he shared 58 years of marriage before her death. Born in Lancaster, PA, January 14, 1934, he was the only son of the late Felty A. and Lula Belle Miller Furches. After graduating from Solanco High School in 1951, he attended Mars Hill College for the Fall Semester before returning home to help his father with the Dairy farm during the Korean War. He married his wife in 1954 and together they farmed their own farm for 8 years. At that time he sold the farm and returned to finish his education with his wife, beginning with the Spring Semester. After completing his time at the junior college he transferred to Wake Forest University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology and eventually a Master’s degree from West Chester University while he taught. He taught science and math the first year at Solanco, in the “new” high school, before moving to teach science at Oxford Area High School for 30 years and retired in 1993. He also was an adjunct professor at Cecil College for one year after he retired. A member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church, he was licensed by the church when he felt called to be a lay minister. This led him to interim minister positions at New Bethel Baptist in York County, New Providence Baptist (Formerly Beaver Valley), Strasburg Baptist and Willow Street Baptist. He also led Revival services throughout the East Coast. Ruth W. Cheslock, (O’Gorman),78, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at York Hospital, on Friday March 31, 2023. Ruth brought smiles and laughter to everyone that knew her. Ruth was the second child of Nellie Agnes Douglas (Muddy Creek Forks, PA) and John Frances Rose O’Gorman (Wilmington, DE). Ruth’s early years were spent in West Philadelphia and the “route 3” suburbs. From Archbishop Prendergast High School, Ruth broaden her horizons through Drexel University and became a medical technician. She worked in Lankenau Hospital’s lab in Darby, PA, DuPont and then locally at Jennersville Hospital and Stroud Labs. Ruth was “a friend of the library” and an avid reader. Ruth belonged to two Quilting groups “Quilters on the Line” and “Quilts of Valor” that have raised the spirits of many. Ruth, preceded in death by her best friend, Edward P. Cheslock were married July 31, 1966. They built a wonderful life together in New London, PA. Here they raised their daughter Rachel (Shawn Carroll) and practiced falconry. When Rachel was older, Ruth became a PIAA official, in her sport, swimming. Michael Phillip Ruff, 72, of Lincoln University, PA, passed on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA. Born on January 30, 1951 in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late Robert “Preach” and Ruth Ruff Henderson. Mike shared 32 years with his significant other and loving companion, Robin Annette Hudson. Michael graduated from Avon Grove High School class of 1970. He was employed with Lincoln University as a boiler room technician for 53 years. Mike was an excellent cook and enjoyed fishing, boating and loved Sunday dinners. He touched many young lives through the Youth Employment Program and will be greatly missed. Thomas E. Eilertsen, 89, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died Monday, April 34/5/2023
Thomas E. Eilertsen of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born in Manhattan, New York, the second son of the late Thomas and Ruth (Olsen) Eilertsen. He was raised in Staten Island, New York. He and his family worshipped in Salem Evangelical Free Church. He served in the Army for two years. He was a graduate of Curtis High School and Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Thomas was athletically inclined and played numerous sports and especially enjoyed golf, winning numerous trophies. He was employed as a Sales Representative for various companies. He was the husband of Joy (Abrahamsen) Eilertsen for 68 years and the father of Keith Eilertsen, companion of Rosa Crussia. Kenneth L. Swinehart, age 79 of Cochranville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023 at his home. He was the companion of the late Patricia Ann Caudill for 32 years before her passing. Born in Kinzers, he was the son of the late Paul L. Sr. and Della Watson Swinehart. He drove truck for Lukens Steel for 40 years before retiring. He was a farmer & butchered with his family most of his life. Pat & Ken also raised peacocks for many years. In the late 60's and early 70's he co-owned a gun shop called K and G Reloading in Pomeroy. In his free time, Ken loved going to the family cabin in the mountains, hunting, and riding his Harley. Richard Earl Irwin, 84, of New Providence, entered into rest on Friday, March 31, 2023. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Jesse and Bertha (McGuigan) Irwin. Richard is survived by his wife Mary M. (Markley) Irwin. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jane Irwin. Richard farmed early in life and then went on to work as a mechanic for Wenger Pontiac. He loved antique cars and also collected antique toy tractors. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by several nieces and nephews; a sister, Jean (Irwin) Crouse and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Irwin. Jean E. Herr, 97, of Quarryville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
Born in East Drumore Twp., was a daughter of the late Jacob H. and Barbara (Grimsey) Herr. Jean was a 1944 graduate of Quarryville High School and went on to work for Jerome H. Rhoads, Inc. for over 32 years. After retirement, she stayed active in the community by volunteering with Solanco Meals on Wheels and Solanco Neighborhood Ministries. She was long-time member of New Providence Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. |
