Mildred H. Rhoads Overly, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary McCauley Rhoads. Mildred was the wife of William E. Overly. They were married 68 years before he passed away on July 31, 2019. Mildred worked for Hubley’s as an assembly line worker. After she retired she continued to work part time at Mussers in the deli. She enjoyed canning, gardening and she loved to host family gatherings where she would cook for everyone. Mildred and William lived a simple life and wherever their family was is where they were happy to be. Sandra L. Styer, 74, of Oxford, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community, West Grove.
Born in West Grove, PA she was the daughter of the late Ervin E. “Reds” and Mary L. Marlin Styer. Sandra attended Handi-Crafters, Thorndale for over 40 years. She was a lifelong resident of Oxford and loved bingo, playing cards and various games, she particularly enjoyed socializing with others. Sandy enjoyed taking numerous vacations to Walt Disney World, Sea World and Las Vegas with her sister and brother-in-law. Polly A. Turner, 78, of New Providence went to be with her Lord & Savior at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She and her husband Richard F. Turner celebrated 46 years of marriage. Born in Berwick, PA she was the daughter of the late Paul and Grace Bailets Weiss. Polly had been employed by Acme markets, serving in many capacities within the store. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church where she served as a pianist. She was also a member of Gideon’s International and Order of Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Grand Matron and the Christian Motorcyclist Association. Her hobbies and enjoyments were reading, playing the piano, knitting, needlepoint, puzzles of all kinds, going to the beach, and raising alpacas. An avid traveler, she and her husband visited all the lower 48 states on motorcycle. She also traveled to many foreign countries as well. B. Gayle Moore, 67, of Nottingham, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in Marion, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William and Alma (Hall) Blevins. She was the loving wife of Gary Lee Latham. Gayle had worked as the Kitchen Supervisor for the Kendal-Crosslands Retirement Community in Kennett Square. She was a member of the Ancient Order of the Croaking Frogs in Quarryville. Gayle was an artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Scott Moore, companion of Jamie Reinhardt and 4 siblings. She was preceded in death by a sister. James F. Good, age 78, of Lancaster, passed away at his home on Monday, January 15, 2024. He was the husband of Linda M. Brooks Good, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on July 20th. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Charles & Miriam Shertz Good. He worked as a lineman for Bell Telephone and then retired from Verizon in 2000. He then worked for LEPCO in the receiving department for 11 years. He graduated from McCaskey High School. He served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the VFW Post 7294 of Millersville. He enjoyed working around the house, going to Ocean City, MD and going to the VFW and other social clubs. Clyde Hubley, Jr., 92, of Oxford, PA, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 15, 2024. He was the husband of Shirley Hathorn Hubley with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Born in Columbia, PA he was the son of the late Clyde Gerald and Muriel Ethel Sprenkle Hubley. Clyde was employed with Dupont for 35 years and owned and operated Hubley’s Offset Printing with his wife, Shirley. Both Shirley and Clyde were always eager to give back and support the local community, businesses, and schools. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford, serving as a Trustee. Elizabeth Hiryok, of Cranberry Twp., PA, died very unexpectedly on January 4, 2024, at age 53. Born in Manhasset, New York, she was the daughter of Richard and Sally (Whitenack) Walton of Quarryville. She was raised in Quarryville and graduated from Solanco High School, and Bloomsburg University. Most recently she worked as Cultural Director at two Chick-fil-A restaurants in the Cranberry Township area. Elizabeth was an upbeat and positive woman who was driven to help others. She was always levelheaded, a long-range planner, focused, and easy going. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Her two sons were her top priority. Aaron M. Zook, age 3 years, passed away at home on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
He was born in Nottingham, son of Enos K. & Rebecca S. Miller Zook of 253 McCoury Road, Nottingham, PA. Along with his parents he attended the Old Order Amish Church. Surviving besides his parents are 4 siblings: Annie G., Benuel M., Lydia M., Daniel M. Zook, grandparents: Benuel F. & Hannah Stoltzfus Ebersol Miller of Nottingham, Samuel K & Susie B. King Zook of Quarryville, great grandparents: Anna Fisher Miller of Paradise, Daniel U. Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, Benuel L. & Malinda Smucker Stoltzfus of Honey Brook. Roger E. Hartsoe, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 14, 2024 after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Russel and Laura Hartsoe. Roger was the husband of Lucy Watson Hartsoe, who he celebrated 50 years of marriage with. Roger was a member of Wrightsdale Baptist Church. He was a dairy farmer, iron worker, and supervisor of Washington D.C. Subway Systems. Roger loved bluegrass gospel music and enjoyed electronics and computers. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife and daughters. Mary Evelyn Brooks, 84, formerly of Holtwood, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Providence Place Senior Living of Pine Grove. Born in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Ira and L. Pearl (Schofield) Johnson. She was the loving wife of the late Jere J. Brooks for 55 years at the time of his passing on November 1, 2020. Mary served as the tax collector for Providence Twp. for 35 years. She was active with the Rawlinsville Camp Meeting Assoc., where she served with the ladies’ auxiliary for many years. She was a longtime member of Rawlinsville United Methodist Church and she enjoyed Yankees baseball, traveling, listening to Frank Sinatra, and playing cards. Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society. |
