Linda K. Kennedy, 84, of West Grove, PA, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford, PA. She was the wife of the late Gerald Kennedy. Born in Sylmar, MD she was the daughter of the late Willard and Emily Townsend Kirk. Linda was retired from Sears after many years of exemplary service. Prior to that she worked at Gillespies and National 5 & 10 of Oxford and would help pick mushrooms for her father-in-law. She was also employed as a clerk at both the VA Hospital in Perry Point, MD and the U.S. Naval Station in Key West, FL. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Oxford. Linda was also a member of the Red Hat Society of West Grove, the Homemakers of Oxford and the Oxford and West Grove Senior Centers. She was a cub scout den mother of Pack #41. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Alan L. Kennedy (Sharon) of Oxford, Scott Kennedy of North East, MD and Greg L. Kennedy (Karam) of Landenberg; six grandchildren, Diana, Michelle, Samanda, Julia, Elise and James; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Linda Weaver of Oxford. George William “Bill” Eller, Jr., age 85, of Nottingham, PA, died peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023, after a short illness. Bill was born on July 10, 1937, in Drumore Township, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George and Genevieve Eller. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Brinton) Eller; four children – Donnie and his wife, Dorothy; Barbara and her husband, Bill Gehrlein; Tommy and his wife, Tracie; Sandy and her husband, Ed Costello; 13 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 11 brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John. Bill graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard, where he served for three years. In 2001, he retired from a long career at Penn Fuel Gas and, with his beloved wife, Mary Lou, traveled extensively, ultimately visiting all 50 states. Peggy L. Dewald, 91, formerly of Denver, entered into rest on January 4, 2023 at Brethren Village. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Arlington and Dorothy (Houser) Clouser. She was the loving wife of John R. “Jack” Dewald for 72 years. Peggy was a member of Faith United Lutheran Church in Denver. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, square dancing, and camping. In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by 3 daughters: Jamie, wife of Bruce Carpenter of Reamstown; Joyce, wife of Stan Care of Shillington; and Jill, wife of Scott Alleman of Lititz. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Sundae Lausch. Robert G. Reath, age 75, of New Providence, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. He was born in Drumore, son of the last Robert W. and Hattie Grisham Reath. Robert served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper from 1968-1973. He retired as a custodian for Solanco school district for 32 years. He also drove school bus for Solanco School District, Eschbach Bus Services and Schultz Bus Company for 50 years combined. Janet W. Cline, of Kirkwood passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 with family at her side. She was 96 years old. Mrs. Cline was born and lived her life in Kirkwood. She was the daughter of Norman E. and Beatrice I. Montgomery Whiteside. She was under the care of Willow Tree Hospice. Janet’s life was devoted to her husband, Roger G. Cline for 56 years who died on December 18, 2021. She loved spending time with family and attending Union Presbyterian Church where she was a lifetime member. Janet worked for People’s Bank of Oxford for 26 years and retired in 1986. John J. McMaster, 66, of Drumore, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 after a long illness.
He was the son of the late John and Anne (Cooke) McMaster, and the loving husband of the late Michelle A. (Suloff) McMaster (2019). He worked for Congoleum Corp. in Trainer for many years and a printing company in Lancaster prior to his retirement. It is with both crushing sadness and bittersweet joy that we announce the passing of Susan K. Ressler, age 69, of Gap, PA. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. She is now walking in the gardens of heaven in the presence of her Creator. She was the wife of Richard R. Ressler, with whom she would have celebrated 48 years of marriage on January 18th. She was born in Cochranville, daughter of Elsie K. Yoder Smoker of Quarryville and the late Sylvan K. Smoker. She worked as a tutor for Salisbury Elementary School of Gap for over 20 years. She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, taking walks on the beach, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Robert C. “Bob” Barker, 75, of Quarryville (Tanglewood), passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 under the care of Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the beloved husband of Sharon L. (McDowell) Barker, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Stella (Blevins) Barker. Bob was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1965. Early in his career he was employed by Asplundh. He then went on to be employed by Chrysler at their manufacturing facility in Newark, Delaware. Bob held various positions there, his last as the driver of the new cars off the assembly line, and he retired in 2001 with 35 years of service. Patricia A. Carter, 80, of Willow Street entered into rest at her home in the early minutes of the new year. She was born in Lancaster on May 26, 1942, daughter of the late Jesse C. and Margaret L. Trimble. She was married to the love of her life, Clair A. Carter, who she lost unexpectedly in May, 2003 after 42 years of marriage. Pat was a member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street. She was a graduate of Penn Manor High School, Class of 1960, and also graduated from Emile’s Hairdressing Academy in Lancaster. Patricia A. Born in Creswell, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Emma (Kreidler) Henry. She was the loving wife of Howard E. Reese for 63 years. Mary worked for RCA in her earlier years. She loved cats and enjoyed raising peacocks at her home. She also took pride in her bridal bush, which she tended to regularly. |
