Robert C. “Bob” Barker, 75, of Quarryville (Tanglewood), passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023 under the care of Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the beloved husband of Sharon L. (McDowell) Barker, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Stella (Blevins) Barker. Bob was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1965. Early in his career he was employed by Asplundh. He then went on to be employed by Chrysler at their manufacturing facility in Newark, Delaware. Bob held various positions there, his last as the driver of the new cars off the assembly line, and he retired in 2001 with 35 years of service. Bob had a passion for cars. He greatly enjoyed the experience of owning and driving his 1929 Ford Roadster Street Rod. Bob also enjoyed music and enjoyed all types of music, finding something that appealed to him from all styles. In his spare time, Bob took pleasure in fellowship over a cup of coffee and frequenting the Tuesday Breakfast Club with his friends from Chrysler. Bob especially loved being “Pappy” to his grandchildren and spending time with them.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert P. Barker, husband of Sarah, of Quarryville; a daughter, Stephanie MacGillivary, wife of Bryan, of North East, Maryland; grandchildren, Zoey Barker, Jackson Kerstetter, Sophia Kerstetter, and Landon MacGillivary; and a sister, Linda Walter, wife of Sam, of Elkton, Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Peachin, and his brothers, Willard, Bernard, Clay, Richard, and Eddie Barker, and a mother-in-law, Doris McDowell. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2022 at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566. Viewings will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, January 6, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. and on Saturday, January 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will immediately follow the service at Quarryville Cemetery.
