Thomas A. Haba, Sr., age 79 of Mt. Joy, PA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. He was born November 17, 1943, in Youngwood, PA, son of the late Joseph Mark & Justine Margaret (Knizner) Haba. After high school he attended North Carolina State College on a full scholarship to play football. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War as Staff Sergeant. From 1975 to 1989 he worked for the Philadelphia Laborers Union and then the Philadelphia Carpenters Union retiring in 2010 as a Superintendent. He was a member of the Hempfield United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed bible studies and other church functions. He enjoyed going on vacations, puzzles, reading, football and most of all he loved spending time with his family. Surviving are 3 children: Thomas A. Haba, Jr. of Lancaster, Daniel P. Haba of York, Charity L. wife of Jon Palmer of Strasburg, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 siblings: Virginia Oplinger of Youngwood, PA and Paul husband of Altha Haba of Texas. He is also survived by his companion Sandy Zimmerman of Mt. Joy.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Christian Joseph Haba and a brother Gilbert Haba husband of Nona Haba of TX. Funeral service will take place at the Reynolds & Shivery Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA, on Saturday, October 21st at 3 p.m., with a time to greet the family from 2 p.m. until time of service.
