Robert O. “Bob” Jones, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, departed this life on Monday, June 5, 2023, and went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 98 years old. Bob was the husband of Jean W. (Willox) Jones, who passed away in 1998. Born at home in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late Reverend John O. and Beatrice May (Griffith) Jones. Bob was a graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 1942. From 1943 - 1946 he proudly served his country as an Aviation Radioman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy on a PBM Mariner Aircraft in the South Pacific, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal. After discharge from the Navy, Bob started his 42-year career as an electrician with DuPont, the last 22 years as Superintendent of the Electrical Department. Bob’s joy in life was his career at DuPont, and even until his last days he was still sharp with his knowledge of electro-mechanical operations. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and cleaning the woodworking shop at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Bob was a simple man, generous, kind, and thankful, honoring God with his life and an encouragement to those he came into contact with. Bob was an active attendee of Calvary Independent Baptist Church, attending weekly until his passing.
Bob is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, David and Judy Jones, of Newark, DE. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William T. and Clinton V. Jones, a sister, Florence L. Jones, and a sister who died at birth, Ethel May Jones. In accordance with Bob’s wishes, services will be private. Private interment will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob’s memory to the Kinsman Fund of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566 (please make checks payable to “QPRC” and write “Kinsman Fund” on the memo line).
