Joseph Aaron Metzler, 75, of Mount Vernon, OH, passed away after a lengthy illness and was received into his Lord and Savior's Care on April 13. Born in Holtwood, PA, he was the son of the late Christian L. and Anna (Walters) Metzler. He was the loving husband of Rhoda (Long) Metzler for 48 years. Joe was a long-time member of the Church of the Nazarene, having attended the United Methodist Church since living in Ohio. He worked for Queen Dairy, Clyde Miller as a dairy farmer, Jerome H. Rhoads, and Ephrata Auto Parts. He also pastored with the Church of the Nazarene for ten years in West Virginia. Joe enjoyed hunting and working on cars for family and friends. In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by three children: Stuart, husband of Laura (Hess), Joni Bertram and Jed, husband of Jennifer (Haines); eight grandchildren: Jamison and Hope Bertram and Isabelle, Benjamin, Toby, Nicholas, Malachi, and Christopher Metzler; and four siblings: Barbara Miller, Samuel Metzler (Janie), Lillian Yoder (John), and Arlene Carpenter (James).
He was predeceased by his sister Susan Metzler, his first wife, Irene (Esch) Metzler, brother Lehman Metzler, and brother-in-law Clyde Miller. A viewing will take place at New Danville Mennonite Church, 103 Marticville Rd., Lancaster PA on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. with the service by Pastor Jed Metzler to follow at 12:00 noon.
