James O. Sheetz, 73, of Quarryville, PA passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday December 6, 2017 after a 12 yr. battle with Neuroendocrine cancer (NET’s). Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late B. Odell and Mary A. (Eshleman) Sheetz. Jim was a loving husband to Trudy (Church) - having celebrated 42 yrs. of marriage in August and a loving father to Fred Gifford (Shanna), Illinois. Jim is survived by two siblings: Beti Grumelli (Ken), Quarryville, William (Liz), North Carolina, along with nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed. Jim was a true folk artist, creating and designing the “Wooden Action Toys” he exhibited at “Heart of Lancaster County”, “Lititz in the Park” and area craft shows annually for 17 years. The many toys and train sets Jim created were also featured by Wendall Woodbury (WGAL) during Christmastime in the1980’s. Jim’s woodcarvings included Old World Santa’s, Angels, Geese and Christmas Ornaments. He had a talent for repairing antiques and religious statues as well. Jim enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, boating, camping, feeding the many birds that entered his back yard, as well as creating entertainment gadgets for the squirrels. He adopted two Chinese Geese from a neighboring pond, lovingly caring for them until their death. Jim served his country in the Army National Guard, 28th Infantry Division -103rd Medical Battalion, Motor Pool from 1966 to 1972. He retired from Chester Water Authority Octoraro Treatment Plant in 2007, as a water treatment and pump operator after 29 yrs. He attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville. He was a former member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, (Fairfield,) Drumore, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 955 Robert Fulton Hwy., Quarryville, PA 17566, with Rev. Mark Speitel as celebrant. A viewing will be held 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. at the church. Interment will be in the St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Cemetery, Quarryville, PA.
