H. Joseph Little, 91, of Quarryville, entered into rest at his home on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Herman J. and Alpha (Orr) Little. Joe and his wife, Margaret E. “Betty” Little, had celebrated 64 years of marriage in November. Joe graduated from the former Dormont High School in Pittsburgh and went on to graduate from Penn State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. After moving to Lancaster County in 1958, Joe co-owned and operated the former Willow Glen Farm that was located in Strasburg. In his later years he worked as a Farrier. Joe was a veteran of WWII, fighting in the European Theater in the 3rd Army Field Artillery Division. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #603, Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, served on the Solanco School Board, was the district commissioner of the Lanchester Pony Club, and worked as an Eden Township Supervisor from 1980 to 1997.
Joe enjoyed woodworking, gardening and attending his children and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Mary Beth, wife of F. Philip Hellberg, of Leola, John F. Little, and wife Tracey, of Lampeter, Maureen F. Wheeler, of Lancaster, and Kevin Little, husband of Laura of Middletown, along with 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mary E. Nickel, of CA. Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Ann O. Little, and a brother, John D. Little. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 955 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA at 11:00 am with Father Mark Speitel as celebrant, followed by inurnment in St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 am. The family would like express a special thanks to the Care Givers at By Your Side.
