Ellen M. Shenk, 95, formerly of Willow Street, departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Mennonite Home. She was the loving wife of the late Carl K. Shenk, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Abram R. and Violet (Barrett) McClune. After attending high school, Ellen found employment at Hamilton Watch Company, where she met Carl. Ellen went on to marry Carl and raise a family. She loved caring for her family and her home, and was known for being fastidious with cleaning, even dusting her room until recent days. Ellen enjoyed reading and also enjoyed drinking a good beer with pizza or spaghetti. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Woodfin, wife of Larry, of Lancaster; a son, Barry Shenk, husband of Robin, of Long Neck, DE; grandchildren, Lisa Shenk, Brian Grimm (Stacy), Denise Fuhrman (Brian), and Erica Dye; 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a brother, Abram McClune of Elizabethtown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis R. Dye, a grandson, Kevin Shenk, a brother, Robert F. McClune, and sisters, Catherine Giandalia and Esther Hackman. As per Ellen’s wishes, services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ellen’s memory to Benevolent Care, Mennonite Home Communities, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 (make check payable to “Mennonite Home Communities” and write “Benevolent Care” on the memo line), or donate online at www.mennonitehome.org.
