Dorothy Louise “Dot” MacLean, 92, of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, September 28, 2018, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late Donald Gordon MacLean, sharing almost 60 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2016. Born in Wilmington, DE, Dot was the daughter of the late Edwin G. and Ethel (Moore) Smyth. After graduating from Wilmington High School in 1943, she attended the University of Delaware, graduating in 1946 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, with honors. Dot then worked for Hercules as a chemist before marrying Don “Curly” in 1956, after which time she devoted her life to caring for her family and home. Dot and Don enjoyed playing golf together. They enjoyed vacationing on Lake of Bays, Ontario, Canada, with extended family for many years, and then at a condo on a golf course in Williamsburg, Virginia, where they entertained visits from their children and grandchildren. Dot was known for her gracious hospitality, regularly inviting friends to her home for Sunday meals, and for being a friend to those in need. She dearly loved her family and also her church family as was evidenced by her faithfulness as a daily prayer warrior on their behalf. Dot and Don were active members of Faith Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE, for many years. More recently, they were active members of Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA, before moving to Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in the fall of 2007 where they attended Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church. Dot is survived by a daughter, Susan Palmer, and husband Todd, of Wilmington, DE, and their children, Heather, William, Katie, and Megan; and a son, Scott, and wife Ann, of Freehold, NJ, and their children, Ian (and Juli), Logan, and Matthew (and Danielle). In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Laird.
