Doris L. Hassel, 86, of Quarryville, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late Glenn L. Hassel, sharing 45 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1993. Born in Parkesburg, Chester County, she was the daughter of the late R. Emmett and Marion R. (Ammon) Powell. Doris was a 1948 graduate of S. Horace Scott High School in Coatesville. She later worked for the Quarryville Post Office as a supervisor, retiring in 1989 with 23 years’ service. Very active in her community, Doris was a member of Memorial Methodist Church of Quarryville, Quarryville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, and Strasburg Senior Citizens. She also was a member of the Buffalo Girls Dance Group and enjoyed dancing with them. In her spare time, Doris would regularly knit and complete word-search puzzles. She also enjoyed going on vacations with her family. She is survived by a daughter, Carol H. Ressel, wife of Sheldon, of Quarryville; son, Ronald Hassel, husband of June (Jamison), of Lampeter; grandchildren, Angela (Charles) Moore, Marjorie (Michael) Leed, Rodney (Christine) Hassel, and Terryl (Tim Ryan) Hassel; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Tricia, Dalton, Erika, and Riley; and great-great-grandchild, Brayden.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, with a viewing from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be private in Georgetown United Methodist Cemetery.
