Donald R. Botbyl, 90, of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community since June 2007 and formerly Newfield, NJ, entered into rest on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Born in Fairlawn, NJ, he was a son of the late Andrew and Dora (Dykstra) Botbyl. Don and his wife, Alda I. (Weikel) Botbyl had celebrated 62 years of marriage in June. After high school, Don enlisted and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he worked as a diesel mechanic. Don was a life member of Faith Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Pole Tavern, NJ, where he served for over 50 years as an elder, trustee and Sunday school superintendant. Don enjoyed gardening, woodworking and small engine repair. Surviving besides his wife Alda is a son, Kevin and his wife Cheryl of Newark, DE, a son Donald and his wife Linda of Greensburg, PA and a daughter, Karen D., wife of Karl Reutinger of Carlisle, PA. Don is also survived by four grandchildren and three sisters. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services celebrating Don's life will be on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community's Ellingsworth Auditorium, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA beginning promptly at 10:30 a.m. Friends may visit with Alda and her family in the Williamsburg Room at the retirement community from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are invited to a traditional burial with Military Honors by the Red Rose Veteran’s Honor Guard in the Quarryville Cemetery on May 16th at 9:30 a.m. Please omit flowers; contributions may be made in Don's memory to the Kinsman Fund at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.
