Harold G. “Tack” Weaver, 79, of Quarryville, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Christa R. (Püschel) Weaver, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Allen and Reba (Harsh) Weaver. Even though he received the nickname “Tack” due to being small as a child, it didn’t stop him from moving ahead in life. Tack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After the military, he attended Apex Technical School in New York City to learn the HVAC trade. Tack went on to form his own company, Allen Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, and work as a sole proprietor from 1978 until 2019, serving many customers over the years. Elmer D. Riehl, 60, of Cambridge Road, Gap, PA died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital following a lengthy illness after a construction accident that occurred 10 years ago. He and his wife Sadie Mae Riehl Riehl celebrated 31 years of marriage. Born in West Lampeter Township, he was the son of the late Aquilla and Susan Petershiem Riehl. Elmer was a member of Twin Valley Bible Church, Narvon, PA. He enjoyed driving the church bus for over 25 years. He had been employed by Beiler Brothers, Roofing and Siding. Mabel I. Breneman, 91, of Strasburg, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care, with her loving husband of 71 years, Robert A. Breneman by her side. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Verna (Lefever) Shimp. Mabel was a lifetime member of Willow Street Mennonite Church. She served as a pastor’s wife, alongside her husband for 25 years. Together they faithfully visited the ill, shut-in and those in the hospital each week. Her gentleness, compassion and listening ear were greatly appreciated by those she visited. She also taught the ladies Sunday school class for many years and was part of the sewing circle in her younger years. Pauline S. MacKenzie, 96, of Oxford, PA, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021 at Jenners Pond, West Grove, PA. Pauline was born on June 9, 1925 in Lancaster County to the late Walter Chester and Mary Emma Groff Snyder. Pauline married William H. MacKenzie on July 20, 1946 in the Oxford Presbyterian Church and she has been a member of the church since then. William (Bill) and Pauline owned and operated The Varsity Grille Restaurant in Oxford since January 1959. After Bill’s passing on August 1976, Pauline continued to run the business with the help of her two daughters, until she retired at age 83 in 2008. Arthur Allen Kushlan, 84, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at his home.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur A. and Bessie (Downie) Kushlan. He was the loving husband of Joycelyn “Joy” (Curtiss) Kushlan for over 65 years. Arthur retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He had served during the Vietnam War. Arthur helped Joy with her business, Joy’s Antiques in Little Britain. Terri Lynne “Missi” Kline, 58, of Willow Street, passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry G., Sr. and Helen H. (Garrett) Kline. Missi was a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, class of 1981, and went on to attend Millersville University. She then found employment with Sight & Sound, holding various positions there, and was currently employed by Turkey Hill in customer service. For several years Missy also traveled as a vocalist with a music ministry. A gifted musician, Missi was chosen for county and district chorus in high school, held lead roles in musicals, was in University Choir, Symphonic Band, and Madrigal Singers in college, and served as a wedding soloist for many weddings. Missi was a member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street, where she sang on the worship team. She was also a song leader at Rawlinsville Camp Meeting. She had a love for travel, spending a semester in South Africa while in school and going on many cruises as an adult. In her spare time, Missi enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a good-hearted person, always willing to help those in need. Harry G. Kline, Sr., 96, of Willow Street died at Lancaster General Hospital Sunday, October 3111/8/2021
Harry G. Kline, Sr., 96, of Willow Street, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Helen H. (Garrett) Kline, sharing 56 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2004. Born in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Frances (Garman) Kline. In his early years, Harry worked as a truck driver, delivering coal and produce. In 1954 he went to work for Henry E. Martin & Sons, Inc. as a mechanic, foreman, and lastly as a salesman, retiring in 1987 with 33 years of service. Being very conservative in nature, Harry held part-time driving jobs in retirement, and he most recently operated a small business where he picked up and sold used pallets. In July of 1956 Harry attended a revival meeting and came to know Jesus Christ as his savior. Every Sunday, along with Helen, he would pile all 7 children in his station wagon and take them to church. Over the years he served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher and song leader. Harry was a member of New Life Assembly of God and a past member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God. He was also a member of Gideons International and would regularly visit the elderly and shut-ins. In his spare time, Harry enjoyed gardening, reading, solving crossword puzzles and word searches, and spending time with his faithful cat, Lu Lu. Joseph Edwin McBride, Sr., 83, of Kirkwood, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021 at Reading Hospital, West Reading. He was the husband of Flora Shields Herr-McBride. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Joseph McBride and Mary Stanley McBride Nuse. Joseph was affiliated with Oxford Church of the Nazarene. He was employed with Beloit, Schramm, AC Miller, Dutchland, D’Ambrosio and Walmart all of Southeastern PA. Joseph was a loving husband and grandfather and a hard-working man. He loved motorcycles and cars and talking about his days on the race tracks. He had been a member of the Lewistown Country Club where he enjoyed golf. He loved to dance and especially country line dance. He was a great friend to many and was always willing to lend a hand or offer advice. He could light up your day with his smile and his stories. He spent his free time fishing with his family or “chewing the cud' with his friend, Bill Freese, down at The Post-House. Joe had been an avid bowler on a league in Downingtown for many years. His personal best score was an unbelievable 298. He had been a boxer in his younger years and had the spirit of a fighter in him, yet he was the ever-gentle giant. Frank Nevin Book, 89, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Ira Thad and Alma (Groff) Book. He was the loving husband of Nancy (Best) Book for over 50 years. Nevin was a 1950 graduate of Southern Lancaster County Joint High School. Nevin had served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He went on to work as an electronics technician for the former RCA in Lancaster. Nevin was a lifelong resident of Quarryville. He was active in the community and served on the Quarryville Planning Commission for over 37 years. He was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, the American Legion, and a Past Master of Washington Lodge # 156 F.&A.M. In earlier years, Nevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, bird watching, and woodworking. He loved being outside and enjoyed tending to his garden and lawn, even continuing to mow his lawn into his 80’s. Often times he could be found outside in his chair whittling away at his carvings as he reveled in the beauty of the great outdoors. He was very handy and could fix almost anything. He was always willing to help his children and grandchildren with school projects, whether it was a science fair project, pine wood derby cars or an exact model of the Anne Frank House, his ideas, attention to detail and most importantly his patience were unmatched. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their many sporting events, dance recitals and school performances. Nancy Jane Mreese Kreider, 61, of Quarryville, PA died on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. She was the wife of Keith M. Kreider. Born in Doylestown, PA, Nancy was the only child of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Crawford) Mreese Rufe, and stepdaughter of the late Charles F. Rufe. She grew up in Chalfont, PA. Nancy was a 1978 graduate of Central Bucks West, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Millersville State College and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Kutztown University in 1999. She was a teacher in the Central Bucks School District for the first two years of her career, but spent the rest of her career teaching in the Solanco School District as a first, second and fifth grade teacher, and 15 years as the librarian at Clermont Elementary, and retired in 2017. |
