Jeffrey Alan Dull of Quarryville passed away unexpectedly Tuesday September 20, 2022. He was the husband of Melissa Dull. Born in Lancaster, PA , he was the son of the late J Richard Dull Jr and Carolyn McVey Jamison. Jeffrey graduated from Solanco High School. He worked as a carpenter for many years, was employed by Tasty Kake as a machine operator, and most recently as a taxi for local amish. Jeff loved his Harley, fishing, his music, and his friends and family. Many of his close friends were made in elementary school. Donna M. Treese, 83, of Quarryville, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Garland E. Treese, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1995. Born in Philipsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leroy M. and Verna Mae (Horton) Waite. Donna was a graduate of Willamsburg Community High School, class of 1956. Following high school, Donna married Garland and they started a family. Once her children were older, Donna went back to school and earned a real estate license. After working in real estate, Donna found employment in the commercial insurance industry with Devco Mutual Association, retiring after several years. Every summer Donna enjoyed planting a flower garden at her home. She was a faithful wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Ellen M. Shenk, 95, formerly of Willow Street, departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Mennonite Home. She was the loving wife of the late Carl K. Shenk, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2017. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Abram R. and Violet (Barrett) McClune. After attending high school, Ellen found employment at Hamilton Watch Company, where she met Carl. Ellen went on to marry Carl and raise a family. She loved caring for her family and her home, and was known for being fastidious with cleaning, even dusting her room until recent days. Ellen enjoyed reading and also enjoyed drinking a good beer with pizza or spaghetti. Philip E. Probst, 25, of Quarryville, PA was reunited with his mother in the presence of Jesus, September 16, 2022. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Harold S. Probst, Jr. and the late Jean E. Antes Probst. Philip rang up his first sale at twelve years old and remained an employee at Play It Again Sports for 12 years. He got great satisfaction in making sure a customer had the correct sports gear for their purpose. In 2021, Phil chose to enter the home health care field where he felt he could put his compassion and caring to better use. Phil was an avid sports fan with a passion for baseball from an early age. After graduating from Solanco High School in 2015, Phil continued playing baseball and softball in numerous local leagues. A devout Philadelphia Phillies fan, he looked forward to annual trips to spring training in Clearwater, FL. He was a gentle giant who got great joy in gifting things he would find at local thrifts, whether for his sister, mother or a pair of baby Jordans for the newest members of his extended family. Clare Ann Metzler, 71, formerly of Holtwood, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 19, 2022, at The Gardens at Stevens in Denver. She was born at home in Holtwood to the late Clayton H. and Irene G. Metzler. Clare was a 1970 graduate of Solanco High School. She is survived by her siblings: Clayton J., husband of Florence L. Metzler of York; Blanche M., wife of Leroy Church of Holtwood; Esther M., wife of Wayne H. Toller of Walsenburg, CO; Evelyn L Metzler, Josephine G. Metzler, Pauline G. Metzler, and J. Francis Metzler all of Holtwood and many nieces and nephews. Clare was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene M., wife of David Livengood and Mary M., wife of Homer D. Carpenter. Howard E. Hamm, 85, of Oxford, PA passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at home. He was the husband of the late Ella Rose Dunn Hamm with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Creston, Ashe County, NC he was the son of the late Walter and Hazel Arnold Ham. Howard retired as a mushroom grower, Nottingham and was also employed with Coldiron Construction, Oxford as a drywaller. He enjoyed antique cars, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his one son, Dennis Tester of Mt. City, TN; six grandchildren, Nickie, Joey, Johnny, Dustin, Brandy and Candace; twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry Ham, Kenny Ham and Bobby Ham all of NC; two sisters, Lois Riley and Mary Brackins both of NC; and several nieces and nephews. Mary Louise Boomsma, nee Senave of Peach Bottom, died at her home on September 17, 2022. Mary was the wife of the late George L. Boomsma. She was 92. Born in Detroit, MI, April 7, 1930, she was the daughter of Arthur Senave and Rachel Vandenabeele who emigrated from Belgium to Detroit in the 1920s. Mary and George had four children; Diane Boomsma of Lancaster, wife of Mervin Sands; Louis Boomsma of Peach Bottom, husband of Tracee Boomsma; Michael Boomsma of Lancaster, husband of Donna Boomsma and Victoria Aslan of Philadelphia, wife of Elazar Aslan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren. Mary graduated valedictorian from St. Philips Neri High School, Detroit, MI in 1947. She attended Michigan State University where she met her future husband, George, on a blind date. She graduated in 1952 with a BA in Music Education. In 1953, Mary and George exchanged their vows in Frankfurt, Germany where George was serving in the U.S. Army. While living in Germany, Mary began her career in education which she pursued for a total of 35 years teaching in Michigan, Germany, Venezuela, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Following her husband’s military service, the couple moved to Caracas, Venezuela for George's work. While living in South America, they traveled extensively through Central and South America and the Caribbean. Mary and George returned to the States in 1959 and settled in Paramus, NJ where they began raising a family. Kenneth Charles Allen, 69, of Providence Twp., entered into rest at his home on Thursday, September 15, 2022, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly. Ken was the son of the late Darlington Allen and Elizabeth Walizer. Ken enjoyed sitting on his front porch with his faithful companion, Kitty and having coffee and conversation with his neighbor, Gary. He was a car enthusiast and had a love for late model automobiles, especially Dodges. He also had a passion for woodworking and bringing old tables and chairs back to life. Ken retired from a career he enjoyed at R.M Crossan in Toughkenamon, PA, after 24 for years of service. He is survived by 3 brothers, Don of Topeka Kansas; Bill and wife Mary of Anchorage Alaska; and Michael. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. William S. Perdue, 77, of Dry Wells Road, Quarryville, PA passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 16, 2022. He and his wife Ruth Hensel Perdue celebrated 56 years of marriage. Born in Sabine, WV he was the son of the late Woodrow “Wilson” and Dema Mae McMillian Perdue. He retired from Lukens Steel Company where he had been employed as a grinder. A proud US Army veteran, he served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of Quarryville VFW and the Steelworkers Union. He enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, but most of all he enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Goldie R. Smith, 100, of West Grove, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Newport Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Christiana, PA. She was the wife of the late William G. Smith with whom she shared 74 years of marriage. Born in Cream, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Samuel and Bertha Iona Cochran Gray. She attended the First Baptist Church of Oxford. Goldie enjoyed reading, gardening and cats. |
