Janet Ruth Lutz, age 94 of Quarryville, and formerly of Scranton, PA, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Mrs. Lutz and her late husband, Robert Edward Lutz, who passed away on July 6, 2011, moved to QPRC in 1998. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Borer Winkler. She graduated from Scranton Technical High School, and worked at Citizens Savings and Loan before becoming a homemaker. When her children were older she returned to work at Citizens. In her free time, she loved showing hospitality, especially with delicious food, visiting friends and family and sending them cards, and in the past, accompanying her husband in baking specialty breads and pastries. Thomas D. “Tom” Kachel, 81, of New Providence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Stella M. (Findley) Kachel, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Earl M. and Dorothy E. (Dorwart) Kachel. Tom was a graduate of Manheim Township High School, class of 1959. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 active-duty, and then served as a reservist until 1986, earning the rank of Electronics Technician (Radar) Petty Officer 2nd Class. For over 40 years Tom was employed as an electrician, working for R.C.A., Bechtel, Wise Electric, Wolf Electric, Armstrong World Industries, and Quebecor. He also furthered his education with college courses at Millersville University, Penn State University, Franklin & Marshall College, and technical courses at Lancaster County CTC. Michael E. Michael E. “Mike” Todd, 47, of New Providence, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Chester, Jr., and Evelyn (Weaver) Todd. He was the loving husband of LeAnn (Ruhl) Todd for over 15 years. Mike was employed at Triangle Refrigeration. He attended Encounter Church. Mike loved his wife and his sons unconditionally. He was a loving family man who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Once you met Mike, you had a friend for life. He was proud of his beard and his sons. He was always talking about their accomplishments and loved them very much. Stephen B. Stoltzfus, age 51 of 825 Pumping Station Road Kirkwood, passed away at home on Sunday, June 6, 2021.
He was husband to Sarah King Stoltzfus. He was born in Kirkwood, son of Samuel K. and Lydia Beiler Stoltzfus. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Naomi K. Clyde Witmer, age 94 of Landis Homes, passed away on June 3, 2021. He was the husband of the late Anna May Habecker Witmer. Born in Lancaster he was the son of the late Arthur G. and Katie Landis Witmer. He was a lifetime member of Willow Street Mennonite Church, where in the past he served as a trustee, and he enjoyed his Men’s Sunday school class. Clyde was a plumber for many years at the former Harry C. Rohrer & Sons, later known as The Rohrer Company. He enjoyed farming, hunting at Twin Springs hunting camp, going on Bob Neff bus trips, traveling across the U.S., going to auctions, watching the Phillies, reading, doing puzzles, but most of all enjoyed spending time with all his family. Brian D. “Wertzy” Wertz, departed this life on his 60th birthday, Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sherry Lynn (Ryno) Wertz, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Chester R. and Jacklyn D. (Worth) Wertz, of Willow Street. Brian was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1980. He had a self-taught talent for maintenance and repair, working in facility maintenance for over 30 years. Jere J. Weidman, Jr., age 58 of Peach Bottom, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Joyce Arnold Weidman and the late Jere J. Weidman, Sr. In his free time, he loved woodworking and gardening. Surviving besides his mother are 2 sons: Jeremy Weidman and Cody husband of Andrea Adams Weidman, both of Maryland, 2 grandchildren: Ainsley and Carver Weidman, and a sister: Shari Wagner of York. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Huss. Kenneth B. King, 70, of Fruitland Park, FL, formerly of Nottingham, PA, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, FL. He was the husband of the late Christine Jamieson Lash King. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Keele B. and Catherine E. Price King. He was a member of Power Place Church, Kennett Square, PA. Ken owned and operated King Services, Inc., Nottingham. He served as West Nottingham Township Supervisor from 1977 – 1979 and then again from 2000 – 2006 and was a Republican Committee man for Little Britain Township. Glenn C. Huss of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 2, at LGH. Born in Holtwood, Pennsylvania, on November 28, 1930, Glenn was the son of the late Jennings B. and Estella Campbell Huss. He was the husband of Dixie D. Huss, father of Stephanie Huss Carr (Danny Sheetz) of Liverpool and Glenn J. Huss (Patricia Gray) of Quarryville. Glenn was the grandfather of Michael P. Carr, Jr. (Desy) and great grandfather of Michael E. Carr, all of Quarryville. He was preceded by two sisters, Gladys E. Rush and Helen K. Stanley and is survived by his brothers, Wilbur “Mike” Huss of Drumore and Jennings V. Huss of Plymouth, California, and two sisters, Peggy McCardell of Holtwood and Dottie Testerman of Willow Street. Mary Elizabeth Brown, age 40 of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021. She was born in Portsmith, VA, daughter of Linda J. Reynolds Brown of Quarryville and Steven Brown of Anita, PA. She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and her Pit Bull Jasper. Surviving besides her parents are 4 children: Cammeron, Malynn, Alissa and Ethan Brown, siblings: Steven Brown of Lancaster, Leslie Emmerich of Bird In Hand, Sam Brown of Erie, PA. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. |
