Judith A. Rintz, 81, of Millersville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 13, 2020 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was the wife of Carlton “Bud” Rintz, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage in September 2019 before his passing in November 2019. Born and raised in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late F. Stanley and Mary Hassler Jackson. A 1957 graduate of Solanco High School, Judi often commented that her childhood was “idyllic.” She was an active, social student with lots of friends, several of whom she stayed connected with for life. Judi has the distinction of becoming the first ever Miss Solanco in 1955, and she was also the only two-time winner in the history of the pageant. She went on to participate in the Miss Lancaster County pageant. Jean Y. Swisher, 85, a resident of Conestoga View Nursing Home, Lancaster, PA, went to be with her Lord on April 17, 2020.
Born in Lombard, Maryland on the family farm of her late parents, John C. Duncan and Dora (Ray) Duncan. She lived most of her life in Oxford and Little Britain, PA. She was the widow of Samuel F. Swisher. Jean, was fondly known as Pat or Patsy to her friends and family, was a loving mother and mom-mom. She was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. She truly had a green thumb! Pat was a caring and loving person, tending to many in need. She would make food to share, and generously gave her time to others. Richard D. Prewitt, Sr., 81, of Oxford, PA passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at home. He was the widower Annabelle (Jones) Prewitt with whom he shared 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Born and raised in Oxford, PA, he was the son of the late Ivory D. and Arvilla Lutman Prewitt. Dick was the former President of Prewitt’s Garage, Inc., where he worked with his brother, Bob for decades, serving the Oxford community. He devoted all of those years to provide customers with high quality automotive service and outstanding client satisfaction. He was an Honorary member of the Union Fire Company #1, Oxford, PA. Grace E. (Reese) Book, 96, formerly of Willow Street and West Willow, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Hamilton Arms Center. She was the loving wife of the late Ira C. “Bud” Book, with whom she shared 71 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2018. Born in West Willow, she was the daughter of the late Edgar S. and Ida M. (Shank) Reese. Charles A. Lehner, 77, of Conestoga View, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. Born in Waterford, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna Lehner. He was married to the late Sylvia Lehner, who passed away on December 22, 2019. Charles was a member or Wrightsdale Baptist Church and was also a member of the Robert Fulton Fire Co., serving with the fire police. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Lester R. Kellenberger, Sr. 67, of Willow Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt Joy, with his wife Rita of 48 years by his side. He was the son of the late Raymond and Myrtle (Gregg) Kellenberger. He retired from High Steel after 40 years. Julia S. (Stapinski) Eckman, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was born on July 4, 1927. She went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at the age of 92. Julia was the wife of the late Charles E. S. Eckman, a.k.a “Mighty Warrior,” with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage in 2011. Ellen Louise Lewis, age 79, of Lampeter passed on Tuesday, April 14th, 2020 while in the care of the loving staff at the Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, PA. Ellen was born to Ella Mae and Clarence V. Hess of Peach Bottom, PA and was the middle child of five (4 girls and 1 boy). She graduated in 1958 from Solanco Senior High in Quarryville where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles T (Buddy) Lewis. They most recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Shirley A. (Bleacher) Rineer, 86, formerly of Quarryville, entered into rest on April 13, 2020 at Conestoga View. She was the daughter of the late James R. and Dorothy T. (Rittenhouse) Bleacher. Shirley was the loving wife of James A. Rineer who passed away on May 18, 2019 and now they are together again. Shirley had worked at Dottie’s Snack Bar and the American Legion Post # 603 in Quarryville, where she was also a member with her husband, Jim. She enjoyed playing bingo, pinochle and poker and was part of the Garden Club at Conestoga View. Alice B. Alice B. Graybill, 100, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the Harrison House in Christiania, where she had been residing. Born in New Providence, she was a daughter of the late, Roy C. and Lizzie (Brubaker) Wade. Her husband, Clarence W. Graybill died in 1985. Alice worked at the former Tidy Products in Quarryville, and in later years worked and retired from the former Bank of Lancaster County as a courier. Alice was a life member of the New Providence Church of God. She loved her family and spending time with them. |
