Howard C. Lake, 90, of Oxford, PA, formerly of Aston, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Shipley Manor, Wilmington, DE. He was the husband of the late Mary A. Pangborn Lake. Born in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Howard Stanley and Enola McElroy Lake. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Howard was employed with Sun Oil, Marcus Hook until retirement. After retirement, he moved to Punta Gorda, FL for 16 years. In 1999, Howard moved to Oxford, PA to be closer to his family. He was an active member of Mt. Vernon Christian Church. Debbie Boyd, 58, formerly of Quarryville, died suddenly in Mount Airy, NC on April 20, 2020. She was born in Chester County and was the daughter to the late Walter and Hazel (Woodards) Woods. She was preceded in death by a husband, James “Jim” Boyd, Sr. in 2014. Debbie was co-owner of Kate’s Cleaning in Quarryville with her sister-in-law Susan Woods. She was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church in Quarryville. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting and vacationing in Chincoteague, VA, was a fan of the Washington Redskins, enjoyed shopping, loved donuts and coffee, was known for her potato salad, and banana pudding. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Obermeier who died March 16, 2007. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Horace and Anna Mae Miller Graver, Sr. Esther had been employed as an inspector for 29 years for the former R.C. A. Company. Harry W. Risser, Jr. age 83, of New Providence, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the Mt. Joy Hospice Center. He was the husband of Janet L. Fahlfeder Risser for almost 59 years. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Harry W. Sr. and Dorothy Dupler Risser and stepson of Anna Mae Snyder Risser. Harry was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School class of 1955. He worked as an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, trains and tractors. William A. “Bill” Monk, Jr., age 58, of Quarryville, PA died Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Conestoga View, Lancaster, PA. Born at the Valley Forge Army Hospital in Phoenixville, PA he was the son of Shirley J. Brammer Monk of Quarryville and the late William A. Monk, Sr. Bill was a member of Conowingo Baptist Church for 40 years and attended Safe Harbor Baptist Church in Cochranville, PA. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He had been employed as an industrial electrician for Pepperidge Farms. The family wishes to thank the staff on the 4th floor at Conestoga View for the excellent care extended to Bill, and to his cousin Richard Monk for his care and concern. Joseph T. Joseph T. “Joey” Jennings, 31, of Cooperstown, PA and formerly of Quarryville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 20, 2020. He was the husband of Elizabeth L. J. Baker Jennings. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of C. Dale and Jill Jennings of Quarryville. Joey graduated from Solanco High School, class of 2007 and from the Fortis Institute in 2019, graduating in the HVAC program. Joey was a loving and devoted family man, who constantly used the expression “Everybody Love Everyone”. He was an avid flyers fan and enjoyed music, singing and rapping. John A. Funk, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 20, 2020, 16 days shy of his 99th birthday. Born in Quarryville, he was the son of the late Ray and Myrtle Lucinda Adams Funk. Mr. Funk retired as a gang leader in the floor plant for Armstrong World Industries after 33 years of employment. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific during World War II with the Sea Bees as a Seaman 1st Class. He was a member of New Providence Church of God. Mr. Funk was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman, and a member of the New Providence Circle of Friends and Strasburg Senior Citizens. Joseph McKelvey, 95, of Holtwood, peacefully passed away on Thursday April 16, 2020 in his home. He was born on April 6, 1925 in a log cabin on the family farm, which was settled by the McKelveys in 1865. Joe was raised on the farm and he truly loved farming. He was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Handel) McKelvey. Joe was the husband of the late Helen (Waltman) McKelvey, to whom he was married for 33 years. He graduated from Quarryville High School in 1943. Fenn Philip Welsheimer, age 88, passed away at the Willow Valley Retirement Community on Saturday, April 18, 2020. He was the husband of the late Mathilde Tilenius Welsheimer who passed away in 1999. Born in Harbor Springs, MI, he was the son of the late Leslie D. & Ida Flanders Welsheimer. He graduated from Trine State University of Indiana in civil engineering and spent his engineering career with Bechtel Corporation. He enjoyed photography and working on cars. Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Waltman of Quarryville, PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 20, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Mary and George Blizzard, and the dear wife of Ralph E. Waltman. Mary was a faithful and active member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church for more than 30 years. God and family were paramount in her life. Mary invested her years in loving and caring for her children and countless others. To so many, she was simply known as “Mom” Waltman. It didn’t matter if you were her child by blood or by choice, you were loved the same. She was “Mom” to nine children, “Nan” to 22 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren, and “Mom” to multiple other children. With her husband Ralph of nearly 72 years, she showed us how to love as Christ loved her. Mom taught us to be caring, kind-hearted, and selfless. She was patient, forgiving, and humble as she cared for her and Ralph’s parents in their later years, all of their own children, and anyone else that crossed her doorstep. |
