Lois B. Porter, 73, of New Providence, formerly of Oxford, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Mt. Joy Hospice, Lancaster.
She was the wife of William H. Porter with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Born in West Grove, she was the daughter of the late Leonard G. and Jennie Phillips Brown. Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rising Sun, MD. She graduated from Oxford Area High School and West Chester School of Nursing. Lois retired from Jennersville Regional Hospital, West Grove and also was employed as a nurse for the late Dr. Guy Holcombe, Oxford. Lois was the life of the party and enjoyed visiting with friends, going out to eat, reading and Gospel music. Sandra Lee “Sandy” Ile, 66, of New Providence, entered into rest on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harvey N., Sr. and Hazel M. (Hart) Barbour. She was the loving wife of Floyd Ile for 32 years. Sandy was a housekeeping supervisor and had worked at the Strasburg Inn and Steamboat Inn. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Sandy is survived by 6 children: Paul “Pete”, husband of Melanie Adams of Quarryville; J.R., husband of Jackie Nieves of Conestoga; Jason Ile, companion of Joanna of Newtown, Connecticut; Barbara Myers, companion of Jeffrey Smith Willow Street; Sarah, fiancé of Brandon Harkins of Pequea; and Brian Shaeffer of Lancaster. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters, Kaye, wife of Walter Kellog and Dowie, wife of Bob Foultz and a brother, James Barbour, Sr. Ruth G. Snyder, 97, of Quarryville PA, formerly of New Providence, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in New Providence PA, she was a daughter of the late Carl G. and Emma Doulin Aukamp. Ruth had retired as an inspector with the Lampeter Plastics Division of Exide Corp. She was a member of Smithville Church of God. Ruth enjoyed flower arranging, traveling, and spending time with her family. An excellent baker, she was well known for her apple pies, and German chocolate cakes. Thomas Holt McMillion, 31, of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 2, 2018. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Tommy and Carolyn (Absher) McMillion, of Renick, West Virginia. Thomas attended schools in the Greenbrier School District in West Virginia. After high school, he worked for many years in the building trades performing carpentry, roofing, and landscaping. Most recently he was employed by Perdue Poultry in farm operations. When asked what he was doing, Thomas would always say, “Just piddling around,” having some type of project that he was working on. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, Thomas was a family man, enjoying time spent with his fiancée and children. William G. Taylor, 75, of Kirkwood, entered into rest after a valiant three-year battle with bone cancer on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. Born in Aston, PA, he was the son of the late John Q., and Mildred (Lockwood) Taylor. He was the loving husband of Rachel (Baker) Taylor for over 56 years. William was an electrician for the Franklin Mint and had retired from QVC after 20 years of employment. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his Mach 1 Mustang. He was a member of the Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock (BOJC), a 75-year-old fishing organization for fathers and sons, based in Thermont, Maryland. He served as a past president of the PA chapter. Willie Clayton “Pop” Jennings, 83, of Nottingham PA, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was the widower of Mary Catherine Ward Jennings who passed away November 28, 2017. Willie had retired from General Motors, Wilmington DE. He had proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Lighthouse Family Worship Center. Willie enjoyed pitching softball, bowling, woodworking, and his bible study. Born in Jenkins Jones WV, a son of the late Isaac D. and Maggie McCroskey Jennings. Patricia J. Shank, 88, formerly of Lancaster, died Sunday, February 25, 2018 at her home in Port Orange, FL following a brief illness. She was the wife of Laverne M. Shank. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late James and Elsie McCombs Fahey. A homemaker, she had previously been employed by Lancaster Credit Bureau. She was a former member of both Faith E.C. Church and Lampeter United Methodist Church. Patricia enjoyed reading and was a very avid and fanatical baseball fan. She also enjoyed her daily soap operas, especially Days of Our Lives. Kenneth C. Miller, 57, of Oxford PA, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Deborah Groff Miller. They had celebrated 26 years of marriage. Born in West Grove PA, a son of Agnes Wyatt Miller, Peach Bottom, PA, and the late Victor Miller. Kenneth had worked as an electrician by trade, and currently worked as a grievance chairman for Local #1165 United Steel Workers, at Arcelor Mittal. He was a member of F. & A.M. # 353, Oxford, PA. Carolyn Marie Jamison, 64, of Quarryville, entered into rest at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, March 2, 2018. Born in Jennersville, she was the daughter of Nancy (Tollinger) Rinier and the late Carl D. McVey, Sr. She was married to the late Michael Jamison. Carolyn enjoyed times spent with her family and friends. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Jeffrey, husband of Melissa Dull of Quarryville; 2 sisters, Joni Latham and Denise Sennett; and 2 brothers, Mark McVey and Carl D. McVey, Jr. Herbert Ray Sheets, Jr. 56, of Strasburg, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 26, 2018. Born in Lancaster he was the son of Herbert Ray Sheets, Sr., of Easton and the late Ella Jennings Sheets. He attended Solanco High School and earned his GED. Herb worked as a lead yardman at North American Pipe Corporation located in Leola. He was a devoted employee and was liked by all. In his free time he loved watching NASCAR, hunting and fishing, and being with his two precious granddaughters. He also enjoyed helping others and had a huge heart. In addition to his loving wife Connie, Herb is survived by his daughter, Amanda Marie, and his two precious granddaughters Lilly Mae and Autumn Laurel Becker of Hershey; his sisters, Barb Wright of Peach Bottom and Ella Jamison of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Harriet A. Spayd of Lititz. |
