Tracy M. Blevins, 79, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Marion, VA, he was the son of the late Oscar L. and Minnie P. (Sheets) Blevins. He was married to Martha S. (McCommon) Blevins for 57 years. Tracy had proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for the former E.E. Murray Construction Co. Tracy had attended Colerain Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at his cabin with friends and family. Tracy coached little league baseball in the Southern End for many years. He was instrumental in founding Kirkwood Park. Verna M. Weiler, age 98, passed away on March 20, 2018 at Oak Leaf Manor, Millersville.
She had been a resident there for one year, and was under the care of hospice. Verna lived in Drumore Township until her move to Millersville in 2017. Born in Manheim Township, she was the daughter of the late J. Milton and Elsie (Shaub) Miller. She was married to William C. Weiler Sr. until his death in 2004. Verna graduated from Manheim Township High School and the former Lancaster Business College. She worked for Armstrong, Herr and Company, and the Solanco School District. She was a member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Bible Class. June Kathleen Shepherd (Kitty June),90, of Oxford, PA, passed immediately into the arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Jenners Pond, West Grove, PA surrounded by family and friends in the loving arms of her husband. She was the wife of William W. Shepherd with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Norristown, PA she was the daughter of the late James E. and Mary Hallowell Stoops. June was a Physical Education Teacher from 1950 – 1958 Oxford Area High School. She was a beloved Field Hockey coach and Girls Basketball coach. She was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Oxford where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served on the Fellowship Committee and was the chair of the Flower Committee. June was also a member of the Oxford Research Club where she managed the Second Season Shop. June enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, camping, reading, flower gardening, knitting and music Marian E. Lefever of Landis Homes, Lititz, and formerly of the Buck died Friday, March 16, 2018. She was married to Richard B. Lefever on Nov. 2, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2012. Born on August 20, 1923, in Silver Spring, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Minerva Brechbill Nolt.
She graduated from East Hempfield High School, attended Temple University and graduated from Millersville University. After graduation she taught math at Lampeter Strasburg School District, then substitute taught in Solanco School District and also taught summer school sessions and homebound students in the Quarryville area. Marian was a longtime member of the Readers Hour Book Club, Farm Women #17, Fulton Grange, and New Providence Church of God where she taught Sunday school, directed the choir, and played the organ and piano. She also was a bookkeeper for Wenger Implement. Marian will be remembered for her gracious and kind ways. She welcomed many into her home offering wonderful meals, homemade candy, and hospitality that made everyone feel like family. She delighted in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; they treasure their memories of her. Jay F. Newswanger, 86, of Lancaster, formerly Drumore, entered into rest under hospice care on Monday, March 12, 2018. Born in Holtwood, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Ethel M. (Farmer) Newswanger. His wife, Sara “Sally” Newswanger, died in 2017. After graduating from Penn Manor High School, Jay went into the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Jay worked for the D.E.R. at Susquehannock State Park, where he retired in 1994. Jay also worked part-time for the PA Fish Commission. He was a member of the Slumbering Groundhog Lodge, where he was lovingly known as “The Great One”. Jay was a member of the Tucquan Club, the VFW, and served as past treasurer of the Quarryville American Legion, Post #603. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Orioles. Jay was one of those men who would always greet you with that captivating smile. He will be sorely missed, but greatly remembered. Jere Jay Groff, 79, of Manheim, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his home. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Witmer and Ann Elizabeth (Metzler) Groff. He was the loving husband of Betty L. (Delong) Groff for 56 years. Jere was a veteran of the Army National Guard. He retired from Armstrong World Industries in 1995 after 33 years of employment in the tile department. After retirement, he went on to work for WAY Delivery Services for ten years. Jere had attended Calvary Church for 78 years and actively served in various capacities. He enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling with Betty through Bob Neff Tours and tinkering with cars. G. Frank Gore, 79, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Born in Elkton, MD, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Ethel M. (Van Dyke) Gore. His wife, Naomi “Snookie” (McCauley) Gore died in 2012. Frank started working for Powl’s Feed Services at the age of 16 and then went to serve his country in the U.S Army. After returning home, he continued working at Powl’s for over 27 years. After Powl’s, Frank went to work for Little Britain Township before retiring in 2016. Frank was a hard worker and could often be seen helping out the local farmers. One of his passions was working on and collecting two-cylinder tractors. Frank is survived by a son, John W. Gore, of Peach Bottom; and daughters, Robin, wife of Troy C. Jones, of Nottingham, and Connie S. Gore, companion of Chip Johnson, of Airville, along with 2 grandsons, Derrick and Bryce, husband of Stuart Landis. Also surviving are 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and his four-legged friend, “Buddy/Red”. Stuart Nelson passed away surrounded by loved ones Tuesday, 27 Feb 2018, from pancreatic cancer. Stuart was born on 12 January 1941, the son of Olov Konrad Nelson of Sweden and Dorothy May Snow of New York. He is survived by Judy Nelson, his wife of 54 years, his brothers John and Dale, his two sons Andrew and David, his daughter Susanne, his daughters-in law Paula and Jean, and his 5 beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Calvin, Daniel, Melissa and David Jr. Stuart was a great, loving and supportive father and he cherished and loved his grandchildren greatly. After being raised on Long Island, Stuart served in the Army 1961 to 1963. He obtained his chemistry degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University and worked many places while raising his family: Lever Brothers, Upjohn, Stromberg Carlson, and mostly at Philadelphia Electric at Peach Bottom Power Plant until retirement in 1996. He served in many volunteer organizations including the Emergency Management Agency. After some volunteer work at Landis Valley and Rockford, Stuart began working for Pennsylvania State House Representatives and especially State Representative Bryan Cutler. Stuart worked for Bryan for 10 years. Stuart cherished his relationship with Bryan, his fellow office staff coworkers, and the challenges of helping folks solving many problems over the years. Doris R. Farmer, 68, of New Holland, formerly of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018. Born in Peach Bottom, PA, a daughter of the late James H. and Evelyn Hanna Farmer. Always smiling, Doris enjoyed puzzles, country music, and embroidery. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Farmer (Victor Ressler), Holtwood, siblings, Ruth Summers (Gene), Kinzers, Bruce Farmer (Deb), Tanner WV, Carl Farmer, New Providence, Joyce Farmer, East Earl, Fay Russell, Akron, Harold Farmer (Debra), Drumore, May Fite (Fred Keller), Shoemakersville, and Dorothy Horst (Dave Powell), Lititz. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Nancy S. Wood, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, 80, of Holtwood PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. She was the wife of Vernie Wood, Jr. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage. Nancy was a homemaker and had driven school bus for Eshbach Bus Service for many years. Born in New Providence PA, she was a daughter of the late A. Landis and Anna Leaman Sheaffer. |
