William “Bill” John McMahon, Jr. Of Lancaster County, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the age of 69. Born September 27, 1952, in Hudson, New York, Bill was a 1971 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and went on to graduate with an Associate Degree in Animal Husbandry from SUNY Cobleskill in 1973 where he met his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Wollaston) of Toughkenamon, PA. Bill, along with Nancy, Co-founded and operated Solanco Propane and Heating Inc of Peach Bottom, PA for the past 28 years. Bill enjoyed riding motorcycles, collecting antique tractors, and splitting his time in PA and farm in Edinburg, ND that he and Nancy have enjoyed since 2009. Fred W. Martin, age 84, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022.
He was the husband of the late Miriam H. Myer Martin who died September 5, 2021. Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Warren and Dorothy Denlinger Martin. He was a graduate of Lampeter Strasburg High School. Fred was a member of Grace Point Church, formerly known as Paradise Mennonite where he pastored from 1975 to 2002. He was a life-long dairy farmer until he retired and was currently working at Zimmerman's Hardware in Strasburg. He enjoyed puzzles, gardening, camping and spending time with his family. Arlene Virginia Swinehart was born on September 18, 1924 in Outlet, Pennsylavania to Bruce and Gertrude Crispell. For 97 Years she blessed this earth with her sweet disposition, loving spirit, dedicated work ethic and love for her Lord, and family. On January 30, 2022 she was ushered through the Heavenly Gates to spend eternity with her Lord. Arlene graduated from Lake High School, and Wyoming Seminary College. She married Conard Swinehart on June 12, 1948 and moved to Kirkwood, PA. where she helped her husband by keeping the books for Swinehart's Garage, and raised her family. She lead Child Evangelism programs in Kirkwood for many years. She was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church where she taught the primary Sunday School class, was director of Vacation Bible School, served as a deacon, and was a member of the Womens Association. Alice “Jane” Trout, 96, of Quarryville, went home to be with Jesus on Jan. 30, 2022 at home. She was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Grace E. (Moore) Herr. Jane was the wife of the late Robert L. Trout. Jane was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. She worked at RCA, the Strasburg Sewing Factory, and the Georgetown Sewing Factory until she retired in 1991. She was an avid gardener and an extraordinary seamstress, making and altering clothing for family and friends. Jane always had fresh baked goods in her kitchen to share with visitors. She loved spending time with her family, especially her three great-grandchildren. Matthew Karl Gingerich, age 28, of Conestoga, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was born in Bedford, IN, son of Samuel O. and Catherine L. Schnupp Gingerich of Conestoga. He was a member of Life Mennonite Fellowship of Willow Street where he was on the worship team. He had worked in patient care in the emergency department of the Lancaster General Hospital and volunteered as an EMT. He completed his requirements for a Psychology major from Millersville University, only a few weeks before his passing. He served on the committee of Life Club of Lancaster. He enjoyed music, playing guitar, sports, especially baseball, football and basketball. Matthew was devoted to his Savior, proclaiming the goodness of Jesus in the midst of his battle with cancer. He impacted many because of his courage and unwavering faith. Mildred J. “Millie” Groff, 90, of Quarryville, departed this life and entered her Heavenly home on Friday, January 28, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Robert Charles Groff, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage. Born in Conewago Township, Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Fridy) Gish. Millie was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School. After marrying Bob, Millie kept quite busy as a homemaker, raising 5 children, and as a farmer’s wife. Having a gifting and a passion for baking, Millie baked many wedding cakes and angel food cakes over the years, and was affectionately known as “The Angel Food Cake Lady.” Millie purposefully passed this love for baking onto her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren and a charter member of Farm Women #31. Millie also had a gift of hospitality, and she enjoyed having family and friends to visit at her home. Faith, family, and farming were very important to Millie. She loved her family dearly and she loved spending time with them. |
