Charles William Pope, known as “Pop” to many, 84, of Oxford, PA passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA. He was the husband of the late Rochella Faye Lawson Pope with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. Born in Creston, NC he was the son of the late Avery and Anna Lee Mahala Pope. Charles retired from General Motors after 35 years of service. He was a USBC Bowling member. Charles was an avid people watcher and sports phanatic. He never missed a “Smackdown” or playing his lottery numbers. He loved gardening, bowling, tinkering and fixing things, and especially loved children and his family. Ronald D. Ronald D. Sr., and Donna Fae Louthian, both 81, of Peach Bottom, entered into rest unexpectedly together in their home on Monday, January 17, 2022. They had been married for over 28 years. Ronald was born in Pequea and was the son of Robert and Catherine (Karr) Louthian. Donna was born in Strasburg Twp. and was the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Hill) Smith. Carol A. Carr, 83, of Willow Street, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Chester, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Irene M. (Ward) Bailey. She was married to the late Harvey Carr who passed away in 2001. Carol was a graduate of Chichester High School and had owned Carr’s Market in Mechanic Grove from 1976-1986. She had also worked at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Carol loved to knit, crochet, study her Bible and do word puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. John Allen "Al" Funk, of New Providence died at Lancaster General Hospital Sunday, January 302/3/2022
John Allen “Al” Funk, of New Providence, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ellen Landis Funk with whom he celebrated 31 years of marriage on August 11th. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John A. and Dorothy L. Pannell Funk. Al and Mary Ellen were both past members of Mount Pleasant United Methodist church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He graduated from Solanco High School, Class of 1965. He owned and operated Al Funk’s Automotive in Paradise. Al was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and collector. Barry L. Nicodemus, 75, of Holtwood, better known as Nick passed away on January 29, 2022. He was born in Holtwood. Nick was the son of the late Eugene Nicodemus and Ethel (Wood) Nicodemus Raney. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Mac Nicodemus and his dog, Pepper. Nick retired from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as an equipment operator after many years of service. He was also a volunteer firefighter for several local fire departments, where he received various awards for his service. After retirement Nick enjoyed helping the local Holtwood farmers. On any given day you would find him doing the things he enjoyed most: packing eggs, baling hay, picking corn and cutting tobacco. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with friends who became his family. Nick was always the first one there to help and was generous with his time. He loved not only the people around him but also their dogs. There wasn’t a dog around that didn’t know Nick’s truck and that he had a treat waiting for them once he opened his door. He was a great friend almost to a fault. Wanda M. Woods, 62, of Oxford, PA passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in West Jefferson, NC she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Betty Parsons Shaw. Wanda attended Grace Baptist Church, Oxford. She was a member of the Oxford Area Senior Center. Wanda enjoyed flower gardening, daily walks and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Wanda S. Liddick (Timothy) of North East, MD; six grandchildren, Troy, Hannah, Kevin, Caitlyn, DeShaun and Jayden; four brothers, Thomas Shaw of Cochranville, Terry Shaw of Kirkwood, Ernie Shaw of Morgantown, NC, and Michael Shaw of Oxford; and two sisters, Janet Shaw of Oxford and Kathy Arnold of Mt. City, TN. Kenneth H. Groff, age 68, of Lancaster, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Chester County, he was the son of the late Roy Ernest and Ethel May Schueing Groff. He had an exuberant personality and enjoyed going to the casinos, playing poker, bowling, and in later years, sitting and watching Law and Order on TV. He is survived by 3 children: Kelly Groff of Lancaster, Jessica Webre of TX, Jeremy Groff of Lancaster, 1 step-daughter Staci Null, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 5 siblings: Roy Jr. husband of Hilda Groff, Mary Emma Phipps, Blanche Slinger, Phianna wife of Ed Kanuha, Pauline wife of Charles Hanna, all of Lancaster County. Imogene Brown, age 87, of New Providence, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at home. She was the wife of the late Robert Loesch of NJ, the late Walter Stimax, and the late Richard Brown. Born in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Leonard William and Lillian Lena Diehl Van Arsdale. Imogene was of the Catholic faith. She had a deep love for Children and animals. She is survived by her 11 children: Walter Stimax of KS, Catherine Sirota of New Providence Pa, Edward husband of Donna Brown of NJ, Richard husband of Betty Ann Brown of AZ, Debora wife of George Menez of NJ, Timothy Brown of New Providence, Stephen husband of Cheryl Brown of Quarryville, Theodore husband of Tammy Brown of Strasburg, Robert husband of Tamara Brown of NJ, David Brown, John husband of Lynn Brown, both of New Providence, 23 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Ruthann E. Greer, 66, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late David R. Greer, with whom she shared 20 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2002. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry G., Sr., and Dolores (Tucker) Baker. Ruthann was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1973. She was employed as a nurse’s aide, both at Ware Presbyterian Village and Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. In her spare time, Ruthann enjoyed watching her weekly television programs and spending time with her grandson. Ruthann was also an avid follower of the North Carolina Panthers. Carol B. Weaver, 79, formerly of Camp Rodgers Road, Ephrata, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Fairmount Homes where she was a resident since 2017. She was the wife of the late F. Roy Weaver who died in 2008. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Wolfe Bast. She was a member of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church where she sang with the choir, taught Sunday school, served as an Elder and Clerk of Session, and was a member of the Women’s Circle. A graduate of Kutztown State College, she was an art teacher, homemaker and farmer’s wife. |
