Richard “Rick” Henry, 63, of Mountville, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Tuesday January 5, 2021, following a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, Rick was the son of Vera (Groff) Henry of Quarryville and the late David S. Henry. He was the loving husband of Debra Deck Henry, who preceded him in death. Rick will be remembered as a hard-working, skilled plumber and a simple man who was always willing to lend a helping hand when family and friends needed it. Through the years, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and watching his grandsons play baseball. He was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed watching a Pittsburgh Steelers game. Most importantly, Rick was a loving son, father, pop-pop, brother and friend that will be greatly be missed. Ivan Joseph Kuklis, 83, of Quarryville, entered into rest on January 4, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital with his wife and members of his loving family by his side. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Andrew and Kristina ( Jakob) Kuklis. He was the loving husband of Norma Jane (Cartmell) Kuklis for over 53 years. Ivan was a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University. He served in the United States Army in Germany. He then went on to work as an engineer for the Heinz Company. He later moved to Lancaster and was employed in engineering department by Armstrong World Industries for 33 years. Timothy S. “Tim” Klopp, Sr., of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital due to injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Mary Jane Devonshire. Tim attended school in the Lampeter-Strasburg school district. For most of his life he was a truck driver, most recently for Brothers Trucking. In his spare time, Tim enjoyed studying history and visiting Gettysburg. He loved being a truck driver and traveling around the country. He also enjoyed Harley Davidson Motorcycles. Marjorie June Palmatier, 90, left this earth to join her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in Quarryville, Pennsylvania. She was born in Ballston Spa, New York, the last survivor of four children, to Arthur and Hazel Pettit. She was a graduate of Ballston Spa High School. On February 10, 1951, she married World War II veteran Harold James Palmatier and they remained together through nearly 69 years of marriage. Their two sons, both also veterans, were raised in Ballston Spa and Harold and Marjorie were active in Ballston Center Presbyterian Church. Marjorie was an excellent pianist, a talented seamstress, and a blazingly fast typist. When her children were young, she worked from home as a typist. Later, she worked in management at A.L. Pettit & Sons (her father’s company), and later became a manager at PNC Bank. After their retirement, Harold and Marjorie moved to the Harbor Cove community in North Port, Florida where they enjoyed 20 years of warm weather and warmer friendships. Richard "Dick" Hughes, age 65, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, formerly of Quarryville, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020, at his home. He was born in Quarryville, son of the late Carl and Anna Hughes. A 1973 graduate of Solanco High School. Richard was in the United States Army serving as a gunner with the 1st Cavalry Division in Wildflecken, Germany. He retired from the Lancaster Post Office after 30+ years of employment. Edith E. DeAmicis, 95, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William N. and Hilda May (Drake) Blair. She was the loving wife of the late Anthony B. DeAmicis, Jr. Edith was a graduate of Bartram High School and an active member of the Beverly Hills United Presbyterian Church in Upper Darby; serving in many capacities, especially within the women’s ministry. Having grown up in Philadelphia in the 1930’s, Edith had memories of the ice man coming around to fill the ice box. She would recall the gas street lamps being lit by hand. James R. Nolt, age 89, formerly of Willow Street, passed away at Calvary Homes on Monday, January 4, 2021. He was the husband of Jacqueline D. “Jackie” Rice Nolt, would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 25th. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Sylvester & Sadie Graybill Nolt. He was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church of Paradise. He graduated from East Lampeter High School, class of 1949 and then attended F&M College for 2 years. Jim had worked for Western Auto and then for RCA for 37 years. He enjoyed hunting and playing golf. Surviving besides his wife are 3 children: James R. Jr. husband of Loretta Moyers Nolt of York, Cynthia D. wife of Thomas Meyers of Reading, Jeffrey S. Nolt of Millersville, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, brother Donald husband of Esther Nolt of Lancaster. Dorothy L. Welk, 89, of Quarryville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 4, 2021 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Ira D. Welk who died October 25, 2000. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late A. Lloyd and Lillian Eshleman Henry. Dorothy was a life member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg. Active in her community, she served as secretary for the Solanco Fair for 30 years, and was a member of the Fulton Grange and Farm Women. A homemaker, she also had been employed for over 20 years as an office clerk for Strasburg Pallet Company. Myrtle June “Toots” Houck, 89, formerly of Strasburg and Pequea, died Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehab Center, Columbia, PA. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lola M. Jenks Homsher, Sr. A homemaker, she enjoyed doing cross word and circle a word puzzles. John Peery Bruce, age 94, went to eternal rest with his Lord on Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home in Conowingo, Md. John was the devoted husband and life partner for over 67 years of Elinor Graybeal Bruce who entered Heaven just 5 days ahead of him on December 30. Together they raised their four children on the family farms in Conowingo, Maryland. John was born in 1926 to Peery Drayton and Cordelia Stafford Bruce in Pilottown MD. John was a US Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. Professionally, John was an educator, who began his career teaching vocational agriculture at Rising Sun High School. He was proud to be the first principal of the Cecil Vocational Technical Center for 16 years, followed by his work as principal at Perryville High School. After his retirement, he was happy to return to farming and flying with Flying Farmers. He also served on the Cecil County Planning Commission. John was known for his gracious, gentlemanly manner. We will miss his wise counsel. |
