Roy Albert Rex, Jr., 87, of Kirkwood, passed away on October 23, 2021 at UPMC, Lititz. He was the beloved husband of Terryll L. (Smith) Rex, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage. Born in Lehighton, he was son of the late Roy Albert, Sr. and Myrtle (Hagenbach) Rex. Roy was a graduate of Lehighton High School, class of 1952. After high school, he found employment in the railroad industry, working at both the Sunnyside Rail Yard and Oak Island Rail Yards. He then enrolled at Penn State University and earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering. Roy went on to a career as an electrical engineer, working for Ratheon and later forming his own company, Electrologic Control Corporation in Wrentham, Mass. As a young man, Roy obtained a pilot’s license and shuttled planes back to Cape Canaveral for the military. Having an interest in railroading, he was a user of bulletin boards on Prodigy, an early form of internet social media, and he met Terri on a bulletin board for railroad enthusiasts. Discovering Terri desired a part of the country with a slower pace and horses and buggies, Roy moved to the Quarryville area to get a new start in life and he returned to work in the area with such companies as Waekon Industries, High Energy Corporation and later retired from Mesh. He enjoyed animals and had several cats as his pets.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly & James Cannon, of Mansfield, MA; daughter Kathy Rex, of Douglas, MA; brother and sister-in-law, Richard & Eleanor Rex, of Lehighton, PA; sister, Ruth Rex, of Lehighton, PA; and grandchildren, Jessica, Julia, Samantha, and Brooke.
