Marvin Garis, age 95 of Kirkwood, PA, formerly of Ralston, PA, passed away at home on Saturday, January 14, 2023. He was the husband of the late Freida Louise Harley Garis, who passed away on October 14, 2001. He was born in Souderton, PA, son of the late Earl & Virginia Hewitt Garis. He was a member of Waterway Church of Oxford. In the past he was a member of Fairlawn Community Church of Williamsport and Souderton Brethren in Christ Church. He worked at Stanley Home Products, a plastic molding company in Canton, PA, retiring in 1990, previously working at Frank M. Weaver Steel Company of Lansdale and had also operated and managed a gasoline service station in Souderton. He served as a seagoing cowboy at the end of WW II, sending and tending to livestock on ships to war-torn countries. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and volunteering at his church and going on mission trips.
Surviving are 3 sons: Daryl husband of Marilyn Garis of Jacksonville, FL, R. Gene husband of Susan Garis of Kirkwood, Dennis Lynn husband of Beth Garis of Indian Trail, NC, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, brother Richard C. husband of Dorothy Garis of Bedminster, PA. He was preceded in death by a son Merle L Garis and 5 siblings: Russel, Robert, Willard, Mark and Verna Garis. Funeral service will take place from Waterway Church, 550 Waterway Road, Oxford, PA, on Saturday, January 21st at 11 a.m. with a viewing time from 9 a.m. until time of service. Pastors Jesse Johnson and Steve Doutrich will be officiating. Private interment will take place in the Silverdale Church Cemetery. Arrangements by the Reynolds and Shivery Funeral Home.
