Glenn "Mike" Glackin passed away unexpectedly, Monday, December 19, 2022. He was 70. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of H. Nelson Glackin and Betty L."Adams" Glackin. He grew up in the village of Fairfield, Pa. and lived briefly in Ocala, Florida before spending his later years in Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilation. Mike was born with arthrogryposis, a birth disorder that left him without use of his hands and feet. After corrective surgery at Shriners Childrens Hospital, he was able to use his feet to maneuver his wheelchair and do many activities. He enjoyed a full life that involved fishing, swimming, traveling to the mountains in Potter County, and to Rehoboth Beach, just to name a few. In his younger years he loved to communicate with friends on his CB radio with the moniker "Handyfoot". His mother Betty was an amazing caregiver who was able to take care of him well into her eighties. They were quite a team. Mike and Betty traveled extensively throughout the country with Betty driving and Mike navigating. They made many friends along the way. Mike loved spending time with family and friends and always enjoying a picnic or party. He could be seen just about anywhere cruising in his electric wheelchair from the city streets of Lancaster to the country backroads of Peach Bottom. His charming and thoughtful personality, coupled with his positive outlook on life, was an inspiration to all.
Mr. Glackin is survived by a sister, Marion Glackin, of Hastings, Florida and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Marcy Glackin and Joann Wenger, and brother John G.Glackin. A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children Hospital. Arrangments entrusted to Reynolds and Shivery Funeral Home, Inc. of Quarryville. Comments are closed.
