Edward S. "Sax" Wyatt, 93, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died Friday, January 201/24/2023
Edward S. "Sax" Wyatt, 93, of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, entered into rest on Friday, January 20, 2023. Born in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Lila (Saxon) Wyatt. He was the loving husband of the late Carolyn (Spahr) Wyatt for 67 years at the time of her passing in May of 2022. Sax grew up in Chester, PA, and following graduation from Chester High School, he served in the United States Navy, where he was involved in radio communications between naval vessels. After that, he became a radio DJ for a Christian radio station in Chester, PA (WVCH) where he was known on-air as “Frank Wayne”. It was while he worked at WVCH that he met his future wife, Carolyn. He was also employed at WHYY TV in Philadelphia where he helped to produce early morning children’s TV shows like Romper Room. Following that, he settled in with a career as an audio-visual TV specialist for the Dupont Company where he was producer of the engineering department TV news for 31 years. In his earlier years, Sax enjoyed connecting with people around the world as an amateur radio operator (call sign W3MQC). He also enjoyed all forms of auto racing and spent 30 years being crew chief and car owner for his son, Steve in Quarter Midget and Micro Sprint racing up and down the East Coast. Sax was a long-time Secretary of the Blackbird Micro Midget Racing Club as well as being honored with a lifetime membership. In retirement, he enjoyed helping with audio-visual productions, concerts, and special events at QPRC, a job he took very seriously.
Sax was a man of faith and had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a young boy. Throughout his life he served behind the scenes in various capacities at whatever church he was attending at the time. For most of his life, Sax and Carolyn attended Faith Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE until they moved to Quarryville in 2006. Sax is survived by 2 sons: Mark E., husband of Melissa Wyatt of Newark, DE; and Steve, husband of Jolene Wyatt of Camden, DE. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Christina, Jonathan, David, Matthew, and Luke. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2023 in the Ellingsworth Auditorium at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Hwy, Quarryville, PA 17566. The family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. followed by a service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served following the service. Interment will be private in the Quarryville Cemetery.
