Dorothy Jean Lewis, 86, of Kirkwood, died at Lancaster General Hospital Friday, December 1612/20/2022
Dorothy Jean Lewis, age 86 of Kirkwood, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 16, 2022 at the Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of James Joseph Lewis with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Guy R. and Elinor Tomlinson Hess. She graduated from Solanco High School, Class of 1954. She worked as a secretary for Alcoa in Lancaster, then in the cafeteria at Fulton Elementary School, and retired from Paul Risk Construction where she also worked as a secretary. Dorothy was a life-long member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church, Peach Bottom, where she was a member of the choir and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a huge NASCAR fan and in her free time she enjoyed reading, quilting, cooking, baking, gardening, and beaching. Surviving besides her husband Joe is a daughter; Christine Paxson (John) of Nottingham, 2 grandsons; Tech SGT Ian Paxson, USAF (Maria) of Spokane, WA, Tech SGT Zachary Paxson, USAF of Colorado Springs, CO, a sister; Doris “Cooky” Howett of Oxford, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Carl and Donald Hess. A memorial service will take place at Little Britain Presbyterian Church, 255 Little Britain Church Road, Peach Bottom, on Tuesday, December 27th at 11 a.m. Pastor Tom Milligan will be officiating. There will be a time to greet the family following the service during the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorothy’s honor to Little Britain Presbyterian Church, 255 Little Britain Church Road, Peach Bottom, PA 17563.
