Dora E. Shelley, 82, of Quarryville, died Wednesday evening, November 9, 2016 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Florin, PA she was the daughter of the late William G. and Vera E. (Sieders) McGarvey. Dora was the wife of Earl R. “Bud” Shelley who preceded her in death in December of 2015. Dora grew up in Florin and attended Mount Joy High School. After graduation she married her high school sweetheart, Bud. Soon after, Bud was drafted into the Air Force. They lived on bases on Pittsburgh and Maine until Bud was sent overseas. Their first son was born during his deployment. After Bud’s discharge, they went on to have three more sons. While Bud went into teaching, Dora stayed home to raise her sons. She later joined the work force as a cafeteria worker in the Solanco School District. One of her biggest joys was attending all of her son’s sporting events. After retirement, she and Bud reconnected with many high school friends to share memories and play dominoes. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. The last year of her life was devoted to taking care of her son Cliff, who died of cancer in October.
Dora is survived by her sons: Steven, Kevin (Kelly), and Keith; grandchildren: Jessie, Robert, Kim, Stephen, Justin, Amber, Nathan, Olivia, Rachel, Andrew; great grandchildren: Gavin, Arianna, Aubree, and Ryan. She is also survived by a sister, June Hostetter, and a brother, Donald McGarvey. Dora was preceded in death by brothers William, Stanley, and Thomas along with sisters Kathleen Brinser and Nancy Charles. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Mount Joy Cemetery on Terrace Road in Mount Joy.
