Calvin Franklin Frett, 90, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died Tuesday, March 213/24/2023
Calvin “Cal” or “PopPop” of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community died peacefully by Dorothy Frett, his loving bride of 64 years. He entered this world in Camden, NJ, February 21, 1933, and was the 3rd child to the late Harry & Louise Frett. He was also pre-deceased by his sister Eleanor Carroll (Joe), his brother Harry Frett (Marie), and his younger sister Charlotte McAlack (John). He leaves behind his beloved wife “Dot” or “Nana,” his 3 children, Dan Frett (Ruth), Jan DeBoer (John), and Pam Strandquist (Mark); his 14 grandchildren, Joshua (Freya), Park, Luke, C. Summer, Eric (Alicia), Callie (Jonathan), Calvin (Shannon), Noah (Doreen), Lucy, Lance, Abigail, Nate, Aby, & Aly; and 7 great-grandchildren, Leiliana, Maverick, Ezra, Selah, Iris, Arya & Leland. And Calvin’s extended family is a quiver full of nephews and nieces and “Uncle Cal” was a favorite with his servant-like attitude and kindhearted spirit. He loved Jesus and if you didn’t know this, you didn’t know him well. His last correspondence is to Eric, his grandson for his 28th birthday. Since 2006, within every card to his kids and grandkids was a Happy Birthday wish and a bible verse, in one of the corners of the card. He then took that verse and wrote it out on an index card and added that as well. My siblings, kids, nephews, and nieces all have savored their “PopPop verses,” and use them for bookmarks, etc. His card to Eric was, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known,” (Jeremiah 33:3) and was received the same day as his death. He lived like Jesus till the very end. We will miss him and these cards.
Cal went to Shelton College, then seminary at Covenant College, fell in love with Dot, married in 1958, moved to Memphis, TN, had Dan, moved to Wilmington, DE, had Jan, felt called by God and moved to Japan as missionaries for 13 years, where they had Pam. Cal worked as a pastor, assistant pastor, counselor, got his doctorate, and is “semi-retired” with P.I.R. (Pastor’s in Residence), bringing hope for pastoral families in transition and in the stress of ministry life. Dot has asked in lieu of flowers for memorial contributions to be made to www.pirministries.org. A celebration of life will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, 1pm for visitation, followed by a 2pm service, at Ellingsworth Auditorium, Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, located at 625 Robert Fulton Hwy, Quarryville, PA 17566.
