Barbara Church Hofmann, 91, of Willow Street, formerly of West Chester, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Willow Valley Lakeside. Born in Painesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John Wheeler Church, Sr. and Bernice Millar Church. Barbara was a graduate of Mount Lebanon High School, class of 1949, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Saint Lawrence University in 1953, earning the distinction of membership with Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. During her working career, Barbara was employed in various secretarial and administrative roles as she moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Rockford, IL, St. Clairsville, OH, Beaver, PA, Saint Davids, PA, Devon, PA, and West Chester, PA. She was employed by US Steel Corporation, Gunite Foundries, AAA World-Wide Travel, Elkman Advertising, Life Services Corporation, Summit Travel, Avetx Fibers, Inc., Surgical Laser Technologies, Inc., and, most recently, The Office of Attorney General of Pennsylvania. In her retirement, Barbara enjoyed volunteering in her community at Hershey’s Mill, in West Chester, and continued volunteering when she moved to Willow Valley Communities in 2009. In her spare time, she was an avid bridge player, a bird-watching enthusiast, and she enjoyed board games and jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Barbara was a past member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Malvern and in recent years worshipped with the church gathering at Willow Valley.
She is survived by her daughters, Katie (Chris) Bakken, of Jackson, MS, and Sarah (Greg) Glisman, of Orange, CA; grandchildren, Christopher (Sara) Bakken, Alex Bakken, Alec Glisman, and Hannah Glisman; nieces, Mimi, Barbara, and Nancy; and nephews, John and Keith. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Eugene L. Hofmann, Jr., brother, John Wheeler Church, Jr., sister, Sally Church Officer, and a nephew, Burt. Services and interment will be private at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s memory to the Mathias J.
